Today is my 29th anniversary of marriage to my wonderful husband!
I’ve loved this song since I first heard it.
“The Voyage” by Johnny Duhan, sung here by Irish Tenor John McDermott
I am a sailor and you`re my first mate.
We signed on together, we coupled our fate;
We hauled up our anchor determined not to fail,
For the heart`s treasure, together we set sail.
With no maps to guide us we steered our own course.
We rode out the storms when the winds were gale force.
We sat out the doldrums in patience and hope.
Working together we learned how to cope.
Life is an ocean, love is a boat.
In troubled waters it keeps us afloat.
When we started the voyage
there was just me and you —
Now gathered around us we have our own crew.
Together we`re in this relationship.
We’ve built it with care to last the whole trip.
Our true destination is not marked on any chart;
We`re navigating for the shores of the heart.
Life is an ocean, love is a boat.
In troubled waters it keeps us afloat.
When we started the voyage
there was just me and you —
Now gathered around us we have our own crew.
That was beautiful, Barbara! Happy Anniversary to you and Jim!
I love that song and I love John McDermott’s singing too. Happy Anniversary to you Barbara!
Happy Anniversary to you and your husband! That’s a beautiful song!
Just in church today, the pastor who was giving the sermon was talking about the Practical Realm of Discipline, and one of it is ‘the discipline of marriage’. One of the things he said was a rare species is not a white tiger or white lion, but what is truly rare is couples who stayed married for 20, 30, 40 and many more years beyond and grow old together. He is married to his wife for 25 years.
And then I saw your post. God is good!
I’ve never heard this song before. I like it. Happy Anniversary!
Sending a very belated happy anniversary wish to you both!!
Also, wanted to drop by and give you my best wishes for a blessed holiday season. May you find come Christmas all the joy and happiness ever….and that your new year bring comfort and bliss.

Oh my gosh! Well, first, congratulations on 29 years!
I was sitting at the computer with my husband one day, checking out Itunes. We rarely do this. We came across this song and it was so touching! We bought it and play it all the time. We’ve been married about 19 years! I agree with every part of this song, and it sounds so beautiful! I’m happy to see someone else found this great song! It brings tears to my eyes at times! Again, Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!!! Congratulations on 29 years of marraige to the both of you!
Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby … on the same day as we celebrate, only we still have a long way to 29 years!!! May God richly bless your marriage!!!
What a WONDERFUL song! I love it! Of course, the irish gets me anyway… but that song would be beautiful in ANY accent! Happy belated Anniversary!
