Friday’s Fave Five

Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.

I’ll have to admit…I think this is going to be one the hardest weeks to come up with five favorite things. Usually once I think about it I come up with more than five and I trust that will be the case this week.

This week contained one of those no-good-horrible-very bad days in which nearly everything I tried to do was interrupted or went wrong, plus not one but two incidents of our “sun room” being partially flooded due to heavy rains and the drain from our patio, which is below the rest of the ground level, not being able to keep up.

Anyway…..

Time to turn toward the positive by finding five favorite things!

1. That the no-good-horrible-very bad day is OVER!!

2. For the invention of sump pumps and wet vacs, without which we might still be dipping water out, and Roto-rooter, who came and cleaned out the drain (though they said it had roots in it and was collapsing and inadequate…), and that nothing was damaged by the water.

3. Glorious sunshine yesterday and today!! And very little rain! We’d been having daily thunderstorms every afternoon or evening for about a week or more.

4. My oldest son, Jeremy, in anticipation of being out on his own at some point, has been learning how to cook and made two home-made from scratch pizzas for lunch Wednesday (that was one GOOD thing on that day! 🙂 ). He even made the dough for the crust from scratch. They were wonderful!! I don’t know if he took a picture of them, but this is one he made once before a few weeks ago.

5. This is an old picture, but I just made these Quick Peanut Butter Kiss cookies last night.

A little chocolate — especially when combined with peanut butter — is always a bright spot in the day.

Bonus: There were a couple of really funny things on the Web this week. One Jeremy showed me of a bird looking into a web cam — the web cam in a city was set to shoot one frame every minutes and happened to catch this bird right in the middle of the frame. Amazing shot! Then ivman, who always has funny and interesting things to share, had some great funny signs. I especially liked the one with the mosquito and the stop signs.

  1. Boy, if I’d had your week I knOw that shop vac would have been at the top of my list too! I’m so sorry! Glad it’s all behind you now though!

That pizza looks incredibly inviting! Jeremy will survive on his own waaaaaay better than most!!! (as long as mom sends some cookies along…)

  2. You are such a consistent blogger, Barbara! *smile* I admire you for that!
AND, excuse me for not commenting on your other faves….okay, I am so thankful that you survived the flooding…I really am!
BUT….that pizza looks SCRUMPTIOUS!! Does Jeremy deliver???? Oh my!! My mouth is watering!
The cookies look good, too, but I can pass them by easily for that pizza! Wow! Yum! LOL

  3. Great list, Barbara. Sorry to hear about your no-good-horrible-very-bad day and glad it’s over! I had one like that – woke up, swung my legs out of bed and immediately placed my feet in about two inches of water! I’m with you, hurray for the Wet Vac!!

Can you send Jeremy over to my house to cook? That pizza looks scrumptious.

Have a great – and dry – weekend!

  4. I’m so sorry for all that flooding business, Barbara. Boy, I know how stressful that is.

Okay, that pizza looks incredibly delicious! And love that picture of the little bird.

  5. Sorry to hear about the bad day. Aren’t they just the pits? Keep thinking positive like you always do and all will be fine. The pizza looks great as do the cookies. Have a wonderful Friday 🙂

  6. sorry you had such trials this week.

    That pizza looks delicious!

I enjoyed the link to the signs and to the bird looking into the webcam – thanks for sharing them.

  7. Hi Barbara,
I am so cracking up over here after reading those signs…so funny, especially the Cat Found one!
I’m really sorry about your flooding. We always have issues with one drain if we have a downpour!
    The food looks really good!

  8. We all have those horrible, no-good, very bad days … (I guess you’ve read about Alexander …)

Anyway, glad you were able to find bright spots in the week. Pizza and chocolate are two of my very favorites, so your pictures made me drool.

Hurrah for Jeremy for cooking his own pizza from scratch. If he can do that, he will always be able to feed himself – but he might need some of your cookies!

  9. This is a good exercise, especially when you think it hasn’t been a good week. With the heat wave we’re having right now, I wouldn’t mind a shower every afternoon to cool it off a bit.
I made homemade pizza early in our marriage until one or two was no longer enough. I might need to start that again.
    My daughter makes her own.
I haven’t had any chocolate in 3 months. But I am getting ready for some.

  10. Ok, I got sucked in to ivman’s signs!

Even on an Alexander day, you found something positive to focus on. I hope your flooding problems are resolved now.

    Have a good weekend!

  11. Your son made that pizza? That’s awesome! It looks professional and I bet it tasted even better. If there is one thing I truly miss since I’ve gone gluten free it’s pizza. That picture made me smile 🙂
