I’ve only heard this hymn on the radio, and I’ve always loved the music but only caught a few of the words. I jotted down enough this week to look the song up and was tremendously blessed by the words. May you be as well.
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendour,
All for love’s sake becamest poor;
Thrones for a manger didst surrender,
Sapphire-paved courts for stable floor.
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendour,
All for love’s sake becamest poor.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man;
Stooping so low, but sinners raising
Heavenwards by thine eternal plan.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.
Emmanuel, within us dwelling,
Make us what thou wouldst have us be.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.
~ Frank Houghton (1894-1972)
I don’t think that I’ve heard this one before, Barbara; thanks for sharing.
I never heard this song before. It is beautiful.
I enjoyed reading this my friend 🙂
I read the words and thought I knew this. Then I listened and was sure. When I was in Vegas I was in the hand bell choir. We played this one year as part of the church’s Christmas music program. The choir sang, we rang. It is lovely.
