Friday’s Fave Five

FFF birds on a wire

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

I’m “late to the party” today – it has been a busy end to a busy week. Here are some of the highlights:

1. Mittu’s birthday was last week but between bad weather and work schedules, we couldn’t get together to celebrate til Sunday. I love birthdays – the special food and treats, cards and presents, getting everyone together, and letting that person know how special they are to the family.

2. A bit of rearranging, sorting, organizing. There is not time to do that on a full scale for a while, but I had some pockets of opportunities to rearrange a few things in a couple of cabinets and in the living room in a way I had been thinking about but hadn’t had time to do yet. It’s nice when you get an idea about how things might work better and then have an opportunity to try it out.

3. Face Time with Timothy in the snow. When Jason and Mittu took him out to play in the snow and build his first snowman, they let me tag along via Face Time on our phones. Timothy wasn’t much impressed at this point, but I think next year he’ll probably enjoy it more.

4. An afternoon “off.” After getting the most necessary things done for the week, I gave myself a little time to relax and watch the latest episode of Downton Abbey.

5. Chocolate chip butterscotch brownies. I don’t bake many treats with just the three of us here, lest I be tempted to consume more than I should, but it was hard to have the wintry weather of the last couple of weeks and not do any baking. So today I made a half-recipe of these. Yum.

Speaking of the wintry weather – I could list melting snow as a bonus fave. πŸ™‚ Where I have lived, when we get snow it is usually gone in a day or two, and that’s how I like it. πŸ™‚ I don’t think I’ve ever been where snow has stuck around for a couple of weeks. I know, I know, that’s nothing compared to what some of you further north face, but snow is one reason I’m glad I live here and not there! πŸ™‚

Happy Friday!

  1. oh those brownies!!! YUMMY. I’ve been baking this winter too (especially in December and January) but I freeze half the recipe for bringing out for special treats in the spring for my girls. I’m only eating sweets now on Friday evenings after dinner to celebrate the end of the work week. I hope i can keep it up! I do like sweets! Your grandson looks adorable in his first snow…..where’s his mitten?? πŸ™‚ enjoy the weekend!

    • He fussed about having anything put on his hands. That may be one reason he didn’t care for the snow that much. I didn’t encounter snow until I was 11 or 12 and didn’t own gloves, and I was surprised that it hurt, lol!

  2. I can’t bake much around here either. Only two people and one who shouldn’t be eating the goodies. 😦 Your brownies sound yummy though. You certainly have had your share of the snow this year! I lived in Crossville for 9 months back in 2005 and you’re right. The snow only lasted for a day or so and then was gone. Have a great weekend.

  3. Glad you had a nice birthday celebration. Oh the snow is really in the news this year. Fun facetime, though! I think it’s very good to give yourself the afternoon off and enjoy. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. I love your phrase, “pockets of opportunities.” Yes, that’s what I need to look for because with my normal schedule there’s not much free time.

Good for you on only making a half recipe of the goodies. I know me, so a whole recipe would have been made!

  5. Cute! FT is such a fun way to join in on Tim’s outing. And happy birthday to your dear daughter-in-law. I’m sure she appreciates all the ways your family celebrates together.

Good for you for being productive with those pockets of time.

  6. I enjoy having the time to get things organized. My house is in dire need of a good cleaning since I’ve been living part-time at my MIL’s. That opportunity may happen this week since Hospice is helping find more help for us. Praise God! How fun to enjoy your grandson with today’s technology!

  7. What a great idea to do a half recipe! I, too, get tempted to down a lot more than I should when I bake so I tend to avoid it altogether. This sounds like a great solution. Happy Birthday to Mittu. Sweet of them to face time you with that “first” for Timothy.

  8. Birthday get-togethers are great!! Especially the food πŸ™‚

I’ve been reorganizing like a mad woman! I think it’s the snow and cold; I’m stuck inside so I might as well do something productive!!!

    Those cookies sound wonderful!!

  9. I’ve lived in snow (in Chicago) and there’s a reason I live in Southern California now πŸ™‚ I love watching the snow in photos from my friends!
How fun to enjoy the snow ‘with’ Timothy via facetime. We skyped with our son’s family this weekend to see our little grandgirl.
