Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

Happy first day of June! Here are some of the best parts of last week:

1. Memorial Day with the family. We had the traditional burgers and sides, then enjoyed a movie with the family along with gluten-free shortcakes and a variety of fruits for dessert. Even though it rained, Jim faithfully grilled his wonderful burgers. Pulling the patio umbrella over helped a bit.

2. The PBS Memorial Day concert comes on the Sunday evening before Memorial Day. I’ve watched parts of it before, but this year I watched the whole thing. Some of the stories of our service men and women were quite moving and helped me remember the reason for this holiday.

3. Patch work. My husband was able to get to several patching jobs of cracks in walls and ceilings around the house. Looks much, much better!

4. Delayed rain. We have had an abundance of rain this week due to the subtropical storm Alberto’s passing by. One morning I had to get to the store, even though thunder sounded nearby. I figured I’d just change once I got home if I got drenched. But thankfully, the rain held off until later in the day. And my husband got a lawn-mowing in on the day he wanted to before the rain came down too hard.

5. Lunch at Cracker Barrel. We rarely get to eat out, due to my mother-in-law’s situation, and almost never at Cracker Barrel. It’s one of my favorite places to eat, but my husband doesn’t care for it. But he indulged me last weekend. And I got a slice of Double Chocolate Coca-Cola cake to bring home and savor.

Bonus: I love when two different sources in my devotional reading reinforce each other. Some of my devotional books correspond to the date, but others are books I just “happened” to be in at the time or a Bible passage I navigated to at my own speed. When they intersect unexpectedly, it seems like that’s God’s particular message to me for the day.

Happy Friday!

  1. I miss our lunch chats. My family members are not big fans of Cracker Barrel either, bit occasionally will indulge me with a meal there. If I ever get up your way again, We will have to go there together. 😊

  2. What a wonderful week of blessings you had this past week, Barbara. There are times when we aren’t able to go to our daughter and son-in-law’s or vice versa so we meet at the half-way point, which just happens to be Cracker Barrel. 🙂 They have such good food. I also enjoyed your bonus for this week! I love it when that happens and I start to take notice as to what it is that God is wanting me to see. Have a wonderful weekend.

    • Cracker Barrels are really nice for meet-ups. It’s nice to have a halfway spot like that. I do that, too, when the same message comes from different angles. Hope you have a great weekend, too!

  3. Oh My husband and i cannot STAND Cracker Barrel!!!! The food is sooooo heavy and there are NO healthy options other than salad. Unless it’s changed….we went in about 2013 and haven’t been back. but I’m glad you got to enjoy it …there’s nothing like enjoying your fave restaurant!

It sounds like a good week of blessings. I need to get my hubby inspired to do some of the kind of work yourhusbanf did in regards to cracks in ceilings!

I was planning on watching the pbs concert and then got sidetracked with my book and totally forgot!! Love those kinds of concerts.
    Enjoy the weekend.

  4. That’s terrific that both you and your husband got some things done ahead of the rain. It’s rare we have anything like the deluge that often comes your way.
Those reinforcements from different sources are encouraging aren’t they? Like hearing a message in stereo 🙂

  5. You’re so right in mentioning “that moment” when two inspirational sources of encouragement align with each other. It’s so rare and beautiful. And when life also aligns at the same moment — when you needed that bit of encouragement the most? That’s God.

Would you be interested in joining the Louisa May Alcott reading challenge this June? (+ there’s a giveaway!) Details are on my blog.

  6. Fun tradition for Memorial Day. Love the pic of your hubby doing it while raining. We don’t have Cracker Barrel here that I know of but I’ve heard lots about it. I’ve been noticing all sorts of posts and devotional stuff this week that is lining up with what our Pastor spoke about on Sunday. I think God may be trying to tell me something.
