Friday’s Fave Five

FFF fall flowersIt’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

OK, I will finally use the fall FFF button, since fall officially starts this weekend, even though it doesn’t feel like fall yet. 🙂 I sure am looking forward to cool breezes, hopefully soon.

Here are some of the best parts of last week:

1. Jesse’s birthday. We love birthdays around here.  🙂

2. Choco-Peanut Butter Dreams. Awkward name, but great taste! They’re not specifically associated with fall, but that’s when I crave them.

3. Better weather than the forecast. We were supposed to have a couple of days of heavy rain from Hurricane Florence, with flash flood warnings and predictions of power outages. Thankfully none of that occurred. We did get some rain one day, but it was not at all heavy.

I just got an email this morning from a missionary helping with relief efforts on the NC coast. He said Florence has all but dropped from the news, but the devastation it left on the coast is still an issue.

4. Finding an errand done. We use milk for almost all of my mother-in-law’s meals to make her pureed food the right consistency, and we ran out one morning after breakfast. I was originally planning to go to the store the next day, but since I needed to get milk, I was debating whether to get my whole grocery list or just get milk. I decided on the latter, and when I told my husband what I was about to do, he said he had already gotten milk while I was in the shower. So nice to find that taken care of!

5. Clearing out files and baskets. I have a basket on my desk and on the kitchen counter for receipts, mail I need to answer, things I need to think about and take care of later, etc. Naturally those get full occasionally, leading me to go through them. I also cleared out a couple of paperwork files. None were very big or time-consuming jobs, but they needed to get done, and that kind of work is very satisfying sometimes.

Happy Friday!

  1. Those cookies look wonderful — similar to what we’d call buckeyes here, although those are more candy than cookie. You have had many birthdays lately. That’s so fun! My dad had a stroke and I spent 2 days in the hospital with him last week. It reinforced my feeling that I am a lousy nurse. I have a renewed appreciation for your care for your MIL. Love the fall blog button. From our report, starting today things should cool down.

  2. Well up here in eastern NY it got really cool overnight and we seem to have the wind left over from Florence blowing through. No rain though. Just cloudy.

It’s a great feeling to have paperwork sorted and bills paid. I have a pile on my desk to go through too which i will tackle Sunday afternoon as I’m taking my Sabbath tomorrow!

    Happy birthday to your boy!

Those cookies look decadent. Could you share the recipe? I don’t use frosting though…..could i use melted chocolate chips for the topping?

    Happy Autumn!!!

  3. What a fab week..except perhaps sorting the dreaded paperwork (can you tell Im not a fan of that job?) Spending time with family has to be the hightlight…with the cookies a close second :)Thank you for the recipe
    Have a great weekend

  4. Good job. I always enjoy reading these. Yesterday about 1;00 my granddaughter called and said my Daughter had hurt her knee at work and needed to come over and stay with us as she lives on the second floor and wouldn’t be able to go home. We got the bed ready and waited on her until bedtime, icing her knee at intervals. This morning she got out of bed, the swelling had gone down and she was able to put weight on it so she was ready to go home. Amazing what a Mother’s love can do. We were afraid she’d torn something and would have to have surgery. What a blessing it was that she’d just sprained it.

  5. Wow, your Choco-Peanut Butter Dreams look amazing. And I think I can adapt them for my daughter who is gluten free and vegan. I will let you know if/when I do that.

How fun to have an errand already done before you got to it. I can understand about the dithering between buying everything on the shopping list or just popping in to get the one thing.

Thanks so much for linking to your book review on Being Mortal. I will look at that tomorrow. I am looking forward to learning more about compassion related to end-of-life issues.

Happy birthday to Jesse. I love those birthday candles. I recently bought some and am looking forward to using them.

    Have a great week.

  6. So glad you didn’t get any of the heavy rains or flooding from the storm. Fall has definitely made itself known here and in central Alberta they have had snow. But as is typical here, we’ll probably get a few more hot days squeezed in yet. Happy Birthday to Jesse. And what a nice surprise to have that run to the store already done.

  7. I may be one of the few people in the world who loves filing. It just makes me happy to put all those errant papers in their proper places.
Happy Birthday to Jesse! (and Timothy sneaked nicely into that photo).
