Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

I’m trying not to start every single FFF with a comment about how fast the week went…but, man, it sure seems like September flew by quickly! For now, I get a few moments to slow down time by reflecting on the best parts of the last week:

1. Lunch with a friend at her house. Great food and fellowship. 🙂

2. Meals out or brought in. My daughter-in-law recently said that eating out is her love language, and I feel much the same way. Somehow I ended up not cooking for three days in a row.

3. Quick, simple meals. I’m thankful my family is content with just soup and sandwiches when I have had a busy day and am late getting to meal preparation.  And! Soup! Though we have it year round, it’s especially nice in the fall and winter.

4. Fall decorations. No picture, since it is pretty much the same every year. I’m feeling more ready for fall now that they’re up.

5. Flourless Applesauce Spice Cake. Wonderful stuff even if you don’t need to go flourless.

Happy Friday!

  1. Regarding starting the FFFs with comments about time — that was my conscious effort, too! Seems just yesterday that we were writing that we can’t believe it’s September… And just a note to thank you for all your sweet comments even though I don’t make it over here to read all your terrific posts. My blog reading/commenting time has dwindled to about 10 minutes and it’s hard to keep up!

Thanks for that link to the cake! I’m looking forward to checking it out. Yes, like you, thankful for easy meals. It’s so lovely that your DIL makes such an effort to bring meals to you or come and make meals when perhaps she’d rather eat out.

    • We were all together for two of those cooking-free occasions, so my d-i-l got to benefit from that, too. 🙂 The only disadvantage to that cake is that it’s hard to resist it when it is in the house. I’d love to know what you think of it if you try it.

  2. Oh I am SO glad you put a link to the spice cake. I’m going to bake that next weekend when i have Columbus Day off. It looks
How fun to get the house decorated for autumn and to have lunch with a friend and what a blessing to have a couple evenings off from cooking dinner. I love it, too!!

Have a wonderful weekend doing the things you love.

  3. I loved cooking in the past, but now not anymore, I also love to go into a restaurant or just prepare easy meals ! I think we have cooked for such a long time that it is normal that we are a bit fed up !

  4. Eating out is so nice. I’ve gotten spoiled throughout this home renovation as we’ve eaten out a lot as a break from the chaos.

Oh, and the opportunity to eat with a friend is so nice.

  5. Thanks for the applesauce cake recipe. A friend gave me a sack of apples from her tree. Now I know what to make. My (gluten-free) daughter will be so pleased.

I laughed when I read about eating out being a love language. I have to agree, but most especially when I don;t have to pay for it. So glad you got three eating out occasions this past week.

Soup and sandwiches are a great dinner. So glad you family is cool with that. This week we’ve had tuna sandwiches twice. Sometimes nothing is better than a tuna sandwich. Do you have particular soup recipes? I am not a great soup maker but want to improve that deficiency.

I will pray for you to find a critique group. I found mine as a result of God’s leading. I will tell you the story sometime. Hurray an your courage to show your manuscript. I hope you’ve continues to write. Are you going to be part of #Write31Days this year? This is the last year it will happen.

I hope you have a great week.

  6. Yes, I do love messing about with the yarn. And at the end, I’ve made something useful (usually).
Re: Sue. We were in college together and in the same dorm and sang together in a small group Reflections. She was a couple years behind me. It has been fun to reconnect with her.
I must admit that I love eating out, too. I have two or three places in town where I love their food (and I can eat it).

  7. Eating out is definitely our love language! Lol. Never heard that one before but it fits! I will eat soup anytime…love it especially now that the days are cooling off. I love the fall decorations too. That apple spice cake sounds delicious!
