Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week
with Susanne and other friends at Living to Tell the Story .

This has been another relatively quiet week. I usually try to keep a running list of what I might mention in the weekly Friday’s Fave Five: this week I had nothing. Not that it was a bad week at all: most of the week was just pretty uneventful after Sunday. But, as always, once I think about it I can find a few things to be thankful for.

1. Church potluck. A good time of food and fellowship. And everything I made turned out ok with no major or minor disasters. 🙂

2. Hot dogs are not something we eat often. But every now and then they hit the spot, especially in the summertime. My son and daughter-in-law had found some gluten-free hot dog buns they wanted to try out, so they offered to bring the fixings over to our house one night. Not having to cook or clean up was an added bonus!

3. Books are always a favorite. But summer seems to provide more time for them. My husband and I don’t watch all that much TV, but most of what we watch isn’t on in the summer. That allows for some pleasant evening reading. I often say that I will probably never finish my to-be-read list before I die, but that just means I’ll always have something to look forward to!

4. Sleep. For some reason, I had several nights of disrupted sleep, waking up every couple of hours. But the last few nights have been blissfully normal. That makes such a difference in my day.

5. Meal delivery. Often if my husband is out of town for more than a day, Jesse and I will get something out to eat. That stemmed from when the kids were little. By the time Jim got home from a business trip, I was ready to eat out. But he had been eating out all week, so he longed for a home-cooked meal. So we started getting one dinner out while he was away, both as a break for me and so I could get that craving out of my system. 🙂 This time we wanted something more restauranty than fast food, and discovered a local place delivered. It was very good!

Happy Friday!

  1. I always enjoy reading about your week’s blessings, Barbara. It was so nice of your son and daughter-in-law to take care of the evening meal one night so that they could try out their gluten-free hot dog buns. Sounds like a wonderful trade-off! 🙂 I am right there with you when it comes to books! There can never be enough of them! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. Happy Flag Day!

  2. I love your #3. I am going to take on that attitude and stop stressing about the pile of books I have yet to read. It seems the change of seasons will often affect my sleep patterns. I’ve been having a hard time sleeping through the night the past week. Hopefully, I’ll settle into a more restful pattern soon. It’s good to catch up with you, Barbara!

  3. Oh i am SO with ya on the books!! I read almost every evening and/or late afternoon as a way to unwind after work. I rarely watch TV and from Sept -June i only watch Law and Order SVU or The Today Show if it’s a snow day or holiday. In the summer i might watch a Netflix movie on weekends with hubby but usually we are outdoors.

I no longer eat hot dogs but when the girls were little our tradition was to eat them on Memorial Day while camping, July 4 while camping and Labor Day weekend at the family beach house. Sounds like a nice way for you not to have to cook!!

I hope and pray you get some better sleep this upcoming week. I’ve found that ever since i went through menopause I’m sleeping less!!! Sometimes I’m ok with it but NOT on a work night!!

Enjoy the weekend and Happy 🇺🇸Day!

  4. I love to read too and my to be read pile never gets any smaller – probably because I regularly go to the library to get a book club book and always come back with 2 or 3 more! Have a good weekend.

  5. I don’t think a reader’s to read pile will ever disappear unless they start not writing new books. What a blessing to such access to reading material! I kind of miss when we all used to do reading challenges though those certainly contributed to my massive lists of books I wanted to read. LOL.

We like hot dogs once in a while too though as of late I prefer a good smokie. Love how the tradition of eating out when Jim was gone started and love that you still do it even though the kids are grown.

  6. I know what you mean about an occasional hankering for hot dogs…. glad you got to benefit from the GF hot dog bun experiment! Yay for more reading time! Last week, four books I’d had on hold came in for me (electronically) and I was “forced” have a reading binge 😉
