Works-For-Me Wednesday: Keeping on top of kitchen clean-up

wfmwheader.jpgSome years ago when I was very sick and out of commission for several weeks, and my poor dear husband had the household duties heaped on top of his work schedule and caring for the kids, he implemented something that I thought was a great idea. Every night following the usual kitchen duties of cleaning up after the meal, loading the dishwasher, wiping off the table and counters, etc., he would do one “extra” kitchen job, like cleaning the hood over the range or cleaning the microwave. That way all those extra little jobs didn’t pile up into the need for a big major overhaul which he didn’t have time for.

I don’t do that every night, but I do it occasionally, and it does help maintain the kitchen in a better level of cleanliness.

  1. Great tip! For the first time since the Christmas rush started my kitchen is clean before bed time… now I’ll try to add one extra thing! Thanks!

  2. My dh does the dishes and kitchen clean up and believe me when I tell you I will Never complain. But I may be sneaking in to do one little thing a day that he kind of does less frequently than I like. Great tip.

  3. My Hubby is a chef and tries his best to instill a kitchen cleaning routine into me! Every now and again, he’ll rip the fridge apart, throw out all the out of date items and clean it till it looks new. Spoilt aren’t I?

  4. In response to the comment above from Fiddledeedee about installing a drain and hosing down the kitchen… I know people who actually did that. They put down a layer of concrete, painted it brick red, installed a hose and a drain and that’s what they do when the floor needs to be cleaned. They say it works out great! The only maintenance it needs, really, is a new coat of paint every couple of years. I’d love to do that if we ever get to a point where we can build our own house and get out of this mobile home.

  5. Thanks for sharing such a great tip! I will have to try and implement that into my nightly routine (implementing that one too for the most part) πŸ™‚ Have a great week!

  6. Wow, great tip! Sometimes our hubbies come up with some great tips, don’t they? Ah, the benefit of a second perspective.
    Thanks for sharing!

  7. What a great idea..I’m going to start this tonight….also I pay my daughter who is 9 to wipe down the big appliances on Saturdays….helps me out big time…I only pay her $1 an appliance….refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave….you get the point.
