The Booking Through Thursday question for this week is:
There was a widely bruited-about statistic reported last week, stating that 1 in 4 Americans did not read a single book last year. Clearly, we donβt fall into that category, but . . . how many of our friends do? Do you have friends/family who read as much as you do? Or are you the only person you know who has a serious reading habit?
I am the only book-reader in my immediate family. π¦ I had visions of enjoying the classics with my kids, and we read a lot when they were little, we were regulars at the library, but somehow they all got away from the habit. My mother-in-law reads avidly and my mom did also when she was alive. Among my friends, there are several who do read books occasionally. Among my online acquaintances, though, there are many who read as much as I do and even more.
I find the same thing – it’s my online friends who read as much as I do – we do self-select our friends, of course…..
Thanks for stopping by, Barbara. You have a beautiful site. Online book buddies are the best!
My brother was a non-reader growing up, until he became an adult and had a reason to read (primarily non-fiction). Now he reads more than I do. There’s hope for your sons!
Like you, I’m the only book-reader in my immediate family. My friends don’t read either, at least not as much as I do. However, I’m glad there’s internet and book blogs! π
Happy reading!
Barbara we are buried in books at our house. We turned our family room into a Library with floor to ceiling book shelves, comfy leather furniture and good reading lamps. Any visitor will find books spilling off tables, foot stools and around the chairs. Our entire family are great readers.
Hi Barbara, I can relate with that… I’m embarking on a year of classic journey in 2008. There is a list of books I planned to tackle next year. π
