Microfiction Monday

microfictionmonday

I saw at Thom‘s that Susan at Stony River has begun a Microfiction Monday wherein participants write a story in 140 characters, and she even shared a link to Design 215’s Character Counter to help count. More information is here.

I thought this would be an excellent exercise to stimulate creativity while at the same time learning to streamline our words. Normally I am not very concise, so this is something I need to work on.

This is the picture we’re to base our story on, followed by my contribution:

car

“Did I turn off the oven?”

“I’m sure you did, dear.”

“I wonder if I unplugged the iron.”

“I’m sure you did, dear.”

“Did I…?”

“Yawn..”

  1. ROFL! Sounds like a *very* familiar conversation in our car, but the yawn gives it a kick — I don’t think my husband would dare go that far!

I overwrite hopelessly, using ten words for every one I really need. The ‘microfiction’ has been great practice at streamlining what I write…painful as it is! LOL

    • My husband wouldn’t yawn, either, though I am sure my questionings along these lines have tried his patience. On one road trip we even went back to check to make sure we had unplugged Christmas lights. Now he very patiently waits for me to double or triple check everything before we leave.

  2. ROFLMAO. Oh my gosh Barbara…this is excellent. I so look forward to you doing this weekly. That was just brilliant. I can so picture the “yawn”

  3. Hahaha – that’s definitely a conversation I often have with my husband whenever we are heading somewhere! 🙂

Thanks for your kind words on my log cabin quilt.

    Have a lovely night.
