Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.
1. My husband has done several nice things for me lately. He cleaned the bathrooms recently (without being asked, without my even commenting that they needed to be done), and any time he drives my car (actually, the van is the family car, but I use it most for grocery-shopping, taxiing, etc.), if the gas tank is low, he fills it up. When I thought we were doing one thing for dinner Sunday afternoon but then decided not to, my husband offered to get the things to grill hamburgers. I hadn’t been planning to cook since I thought we were attending something else, and I had a plan B, but it was nice not to have to change gears. Any time he grills is great!!
2. Making cinnamon toast out of the leftover hamburger buns. One of my favorite uses of them!
3. Absorpine, Jr., Icy Hot patches, and ibuprofen. I’ve had some kind of kink or knot in my upper back and shoulder for several days, and I am glad to have things to relieve it, but I hope it goes away completely. It has faded some.
4. Sleep. I don’t know why, but I seem to have needed to sleep a lot in the last day or so. Maybe it is a result of being out several nights this week for our missions conference — maybe because I have a bit of a sore throat and might be fighting off something. I don’t know.
5. A short and successful mall shopping trip. I needed a couple of plain white long-sleeved knit shirts: I wear them under jumpers and other things, and both of mine somehow developed holes in the elbows. I really thought I’d be hitting all the stores and end up having to order them online anyway, but I really needed them now. I found one right off the bat at the first store I tried, and also found a sweater for me and for my mother-in-law — I had been looking for a “spare” for her as she almost always wears a sweater and needed a spare for when hers was dirty. I hadn’t been able to find just simple cardigan sweaters til then. Then I found another white shirt and a pink shirt at the second store.
***Not a favorite, but a prayer request, if you feel so led. There is a family I don’t know personally, friends of a friend, who have a baby boy who has really been through the mill. I think he is only about a year old, but he has had a heart transplant and a host of other problems. It has been a roller coaster ride emotionally and physically. Right now he is in the hospital fighting for his life with an infection in his lungs called PCP (Pneumocystis pneumonia). It’s something some people can weather with no problems, but in his condition it is quite serious. He has been down for the count and spared so many times: the family is hoping for yet another miracle. His name is Gaberiel.

It is a thing to celebrate when you find an article of clothing. Stores are filled with such weird things that they THINK we’ll buy. Not me! I’ll wear my old stuff until the style I prefer returns!
I love it when husbands just do stuff without being reminded or asked.
Sleep is good although I admit I don’t get enough.
Happy Day.
Sweet hubby!
It’s lovely to find things right away when you shop – and a rare occurrence for me – so I’m celebrating with you!
I had a few knots in my back too – and yesterday I had a wonderful massage that worked the kinks right out. It was so relaxing – I love them.
Happy weekend!
Yay for no. 1 and I hope the aches would all go away really soon. Thank God for sleep. We do need to have them in regular amounts. Happy weekend.
Grilled hamburgers are delicious!
I do hope that the knot in your back/neck goes away soon. Jesus, please relieve the pain and bring complete healing!
I, too, wrote about sleep. =D With quotes!
We had grilled hamburgers one night this week too. And grilled FISH on Monday night! Grillin’ hubbies are the best!
Good for you finding what you needed! I LOVE when that happens! You know… for years I NEVER saw a cardigan sweater in the stores… they just weren’t there — but this year I have been seeing them a lot. They must be coming into FASHION! LOL!
I hope you work your kinks out… I’ve got some back kinks going on myself!
Prayers said for little Gabriel and his family – for healing, strength, faith, comfort and encouragement. Sounds like they’ve really had a tough time…
Saying a prayer for little Gabriel!
Sweet hubby you have to do all those things for you! My hubby fills the gas tank all the time for me and sometimes I can take that for granted. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll have to thank him for that as soon as he gets home.
We do cinnamon toast alot and the bun idea is a great one…I actually already have my cinnamon and sugar already mixed together in a jar….very easy.
Sounds like you need a nice, long nap. Rest should work to get the kinks out and to finish fighting that sore throat.
I’ll keep that sweet baby in my prayers.
I offered a prayer for Gabriel and for your shoulder.
Sweaters are the fashion rage this year. I just received a catalog with about 10 pages of sweaters! And I almost never have to put gas in the car, but I almost always am the one to clean the bathrooms!
Praying for Gabriel.
It’s a real blessing to have a hubby that does things for you. I’m blessed in that way, too.
You’re the second person who put sleep for a favorite. It’s one of mine, too!
It’s a good day when you can go shopping and find right away what you’re looking for!
I will be sure to pray for this little guy. Bless his heart!
Cinnamon toast? Yummo!
I have used Bengay patches quite a few times over the past few years — for sports related injuries or bad cramping. They work wonders!!
sounds like you have a gem for a hubby!
hope the extra rest you are taking will help to ward off whatever ‘bug’ is trying to get you down.
I’ve prayed for little Gabriel and his family – heart babies do not have an easy life, I know.
How wonderful of your husband to do all of those things for you….unasked. That makes them extra special, hm?
I have felt the need for extra sleep this week, too, Barbara, and I’ve taken advantage of every opportunity! 🙂
Oh, don’ t you just love it when you find what you are looking for?
And we’ll be sure to pray for little Gabriel. We know the Lord is able. In Jesus’ Name!
Your husband does some of the same things mine does. We are blessed women!
I’ve never thought of using my hamburger buns for cinnamon toast, but I’ll definitely give it a try! They usually become duck food at my house.
Praying that your back pain is much better soon. And definitely praying for sweet little Gabriel. What a hard life he’s already had! May he find healing, and may his family find peace.
That’s really great that your husband has shown consideration for you in these ways! Hope your back is feeling better soon and you can get the rest you need. Praying for Gabriel and his family right now…
Oh, my…a hubby who cleans the bathroom unasked is a treasure indeed! I’ve never heard of making cinammon toast with leftover hamburger buns. It sounds intriguing. I always seem to have some leftover now that there are just the two of us at home. You’ll have to share your tips on how you do it.
I like cinnamon toast out of hamburger buns too, but I have not made that in ages! I hope you are feeling better soon.
Sounds like you are married to a wonderful man.
Thanks for stopping by. I am so pleased my dil is willing to decorate my tree. I am not that great at it, and hers looks great. She has quite a knack for it. Plus I ill get to play with the baby while she does it. Good trade off!!!
Thanks for the info on Cooking for 2. I miss cooking for our family. Both are sons are married and have babies of their own. So it is the 2 of us and cooking is harder to do. i am using the crock pot some and doing some make and freeze ones too.
Seasons of life change and with them come new ways of doing things! Blessings.
Any time that a shopping trip is successful is a good day! I hope you get some rest this weekend and that your back feels better soon! And kudos to your hubby for all his help.
Have a great weekend!
I send my thoughts and wishes to Gaberiel and his family 🙂 What a great week you had. Your hubby was so nice to do that 🙂
You are so blessed to have such a thoughtful husband. I hope he reads these and smiles. #2 is a wonderful idea.
I will pray for Gaberiel and his family.
You have a wonderful husband, Barbara! God bless him.
Hi Barbara,
Thank you for sharing the prayer request – will be praying for baby Gabriel.
