Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.
1. Celebrating my husband’s birthday Saturday.
2. The veritable feast we had for dinner for his birthday. In our house the birthday honoree gets to choose what to do for dinner, whether a favorite home-made meal or a restaurant outing. My husband said he wanted to grill some steak, chicken, and shrimp. I felt a little bad that he was cooking his own dinner, but that is what he wanted to do — and it was wonderful! I made scalloped potatoes, salad, and Boston Cream pie; Mittu made corn on the cob and deviled eggs. We enjoyed the leftovers for days as well.
3. And then Mittu made dinner Sunday after church — chili, cornbread, and I think Mexican corn or some kind of corn salad. Jeremy made “blondies.” It was good, and it was so nice not to have to get dinner together on Sunday.
4. New buds on my hydrangea bush and new little leaves on my rose bushes! It is so nice to see first signs of spring! I was going to take a picture — but it’s gray and drizzly out today.
5. Lunch with my good friend Carol on Tuesday (hmmm — this FFF has even more than the usual references to food…) Even though I enjoyed going to a local restaurant that we don’t get to very often, I enjoyed the fellowship much more.
And then after we parted ways, I wandered around a few stores. I don’t usually like “recreational shopping” — normally I want to just find what I need and then get back home. But every now and then I like to visit a few stores and see what’s new. I spent less than an hour at it, but it was very relaxing. The only things I bought were some dish towels on sale, two for $3:
I very rarely see anything kitcheny in pink these days, so I was happy to find these!
It’s been an extremely busy week, but a good one! Hope yours was as well.

Boston Creme Pie is my FAVORITE — and I would SO be using that cake for my Weekend Reflections if it was MY picture! I love the glow of the candles in the chocolate! You have had a GREAT food week this week!
I am absolutely LOVING the first signs of spring too! It’s rainy out and I have puddles in my yard this morning – but grass is STARTING to come up – it looks like MOSS right now – but I know it’s really grass, and I’m excited!
Hurray for your PINK stuff! Have you seen all the PINK kitchen utensils that are out for Breast Cancer awareness? One store even had a PINK toaster! LOL!
Happy Birthday to your husband. Some weeks do seem to be more food centered than others. Birthday weeks are almost always full of yummies.
I like the pink kitchen towels. They would never fly at my house. Amoeba seems to have a deep seated prejudice against pink.
I love it that you love the color pink! I see less of it these days and it’s just something that I like about you.
Jim’s birthday dinner sounds really REALLY yummy!
As does your Sunday meal. Chili is one of my favorite (and easy!) meals. It reminds me of home in Texas and just feels like a part of me. I think you are determining our weekend fare with your post here….
The icing on that cake makes my mouth water! Wish I could have been there for his birthday dinner of steak, chicken and shrimp. Yum. The dish towels are so lovely. You always have the greatest finds.
Hau`oli La Hanau to your husband. 🙂 Sounds like Spring is really coming. 🙂 Cute towels. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
We let our birthday person select dinner too! My hubby just turned 51. 🙂 Also, I would love to plant hydrangeas!!!
Boy you two are young! Happy birthday to your husband. I love it when someone else cooks a meal for me!!
Lol, its true, its hard to make our five favorites without a reference to food. Its such a big part of our lives!
Mmm, Boston cream pie, so yummy!
That sounds like quite the birthday spread! Yummy!
LOL. Some weeks it seems that I can use all five of my FFF’s for food.
Those are sweet kitchen towels. Very springy!
My kitchen is white, green, and pink so I would love to have those dish towels! I love hydrangeas, but I don’t have any 😦 I would like to though. With our house rennovation going on, I have absolutley no landscaping, not even a single bush. All in due time I suppose. Nice list Barbara. Have a great week!
I love the little shoots coming up reminding me Spring is close! It can snow again for all I care, ’cause I have hope of warmer weather now!
Happy Birthday to your husband!
Yes! Spring is coming — I hope you do get out to chronicle the new growth. Your husband’s birthday dinner sounded scrumptious. He’s also looking pretty pleased with that dessert!
This is one yummy week!
We do the same thing for birthdays at my house — the birthday boy chooses his meal!
Fellowship with friends is the BEST, and I love your new dishtowels. I need some, and I just may go pink after all these years of boys!
Happy weekend.
The cake looks yummy!! I’m glad that Jim had a nice birthday.
The dishtowels are very pretty! When I was single my kitchen was light blue and pink. That was quite a while ago and it was hard to find kitchen items in pink back them too.
Belated Happy Birthday wishes for your husband! Sounds like he made an awesome choice for a birthday dinner. What a menu!
