Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.
1. Pink doilies!
2. The generosity of the folks from my church and the way the Lord provided through them for care packages for our college students. I miscalculated and got the announcements for them out later than I should have, but everything came together, and all the boxes and bags were stuffed.
3. A very nice lady at the post office who told me my packages would be cheaper with the flat rate boxes and helped me empty the boxes I had into flat rate boxes, tape them, and make out new address labels right there in the post office. This was at a little old post office a little ways past the one I usually go to, but I think I am going there from now on! I had checked the first couple of packages against the flat rates, and it was the same, so I assumed they would all be, but the flat rates made a big difference. For her not only to tell me that, and not only to let me take the time there to change boxes, but to actually pitch in and help was way above and beyond the call of duty, and I so appreciated it.
4. Jeremy, my oldest son, helped me take a few of the bags to a college about 45 minutes away from here, not far enough to justify sending through the mail. He delivered the ones to the guys’ dorms and I did the same for the girls. Then we ate lunch at a Sticky Fingers barbecue restaurant there, which we don’t have in our town. That is some good stuff, lemmee tell ya.
5. Having not one, but two good Christian radio stations that I switch back and forth between. Being able to have spiritual edification at the touch of a button is something I tend to take for granted, but I enjoy listening especially when I am in the car or working in the kitchen.
Hope you have a great Friday! We’ve been having wonderful springy weather — just the right temperature, not too hot or cold, and I’ve seen a few blossoms and some green growth here and there around town — enough to brighten the landscape but not enough for allergies to kick in yet. 🙂

Ah, yes, I hear you on the Christian radio stations. It’s nice to have the opportunity to flip back and forth!
I”m hungry for BBQ now, thanks.
And that is AMAZING service at the post office. How very kind of her! That’s incredible (these days) and what a wonderful act of service.
Ohhhhh how I WISH we had a Sticky Fingers! I can only imagine! I buy their BBQ sauces in the grocery store – but to have them in the restaurant I’m sure is MUCH better!
I love my Christian radio stations too. One of ours plays waaaaaay too many commercials though – so I usually listen to the other one. (unless it comes in static-y) (couldn’t figure out HOW to spell that – must not be a word!)
Our church did care packages for the college kids last month – for Valentines. We send Love Boxes! And my little post office is JUST like the one you describe! They do things like that all.the.time! I love it!
I’m not much into doilies – but I have to admit that pink one made me smile! Probably just because I know how HAPPY it would make you! And that bunny is adorable!
What a wonderful project for college students! I like that idea…
Yum now I want me some bbq~
Have a wonderful weekend Barbara…
Great post, Barbara…. I like how you find thankfulness in everyday things. I have been reminded this week to give thanks in EVERYthing…
God bless.
We use the flat-rate boxes to send stuff to our sons at college, and boy do we ever pack them full! It’s great!
Be so thankful for your radio stations! That’s one thing I’ve missed about not living in the Upstate all these years. It has lots of good Christian radio.
That lady at the post office sounds like a gem. We should all be so thoughtful! I like the care package idea for the college students. I bet it is rewarding for you to do this. I love Christian radio. It is so important what we fill our minds with. Christian radio helps me to keep my mind on Christ, right where it needs to be. Hope you have another great week!
I have had the same experience in the post office. I never knew that so now I always go there and pack my stuff there. Problem is I have to bring everything with me to put it together. Anything to save a buck LOL Cute picture. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
Your pink doily is so pretty. Glad you have such a nice postal lady. We always joke that ours is very grouchy. I love Christian radio, too. We have 2 stations, but one isn’t clear in the house, only in the car. I need to enjoy this spring weather we’re having today by getting outside, so enjoy your weekend; I’m out of here!
That was great old-fashioned service at the post office. That’s why I love the little places off the beaten track much better than the busy, slick stores and offices. I think you get much better personalized service at the smaller places.
Lucky you, to have two Christian stations to listen to. We get two on a good-weather day but if the weather is bad, the one from W. Virginia fades out. Pooh!
What a wonderful postal worker to help you out like that. You’d don’t find service like that too much anymore!
Love your little patchwork bear. He is so cute.
The delivery outing with your son sounds like it was a special time for the two of you. And you gotta love the name of that restaurant.
Flat rate boxes are great. We just did care packages for soldiers with them. I think your postal carrier will pick them up saving a trip to the post office.
I remember those care packages to college students. I used to do that for my daughter.
Someone willing to give us a tip like that lady at the P.O. is a blessing. Honey Bear and I were in the home improvement store looking at tillers for the garden. The guy asked how often during the year we thought we’d use one. He told us we could rent one for the day for about $35. A much better idea.
I know you enjoyed spending time with your son, one on one, like that. I’d like to do that with mine sometime.
Have a great weekend,
Mama Bear
great list! that’s awesome about the post office lady….yeah! love how the Lord blesses us thru the actions of others……that BBQ sounds great..we don’t have one of those in our part of NYS…..actually I don’t think there are any around our state…..
Glad that you got all of your packages delivered! I told you that I would help, and if I had known that a stop at Sticky Fingers was included — well, you would have had to lock me up to keep me from going! 🙂 We discovered Sticky Fingers when we first took Kevin to the Citadel. They have delicious food! I remember being amazed that their napkins were really regular hand towels. You need them to be that big and sturdy!
I, too, am thankful for the blessing of the Christian radio stations we have in this area. For those who don’t have that privilege, check out http://www.abidingradio.org for conservative Christian music on the internet.
Have a great weekend! Isn’t this weather just wonderful?
no. 1 how pretty! both of them. It’s always great when someone makes helpful suggestion. Barbecue hmm… yum!
No.1 such pretty little things. It’s always good when someone gives helpful suggestions at the right time.
Those flat rate boxes are great, and how nice of the empoyee to help you like that.
Fun to have dinner with your son as well. Sounds like a good week.
Love those pink doilies!
Oh, I love those flat rate boxes. My husband is the master at cramming those full and getting a good deal…
Happy weekend!
That was some awesome service you recieved! The lady deserves your patronage after that, for sure. What a blessing when someone goes out of their way to help.
What a blessing that postal lady was! And what a blessing you and your son were!
Ah… the post office! You’ve discovered a treasure. I do try to time my visits when a line seems less likely (not always successful.)
I do love barbecue too. Sounds like your sticky finger restaurant is a good place to do lunch. :~d
Thanks for sharing your FFF. What a blessing you are to coordinate those care packages. I’m sure they loved them.
Have a great weekend.
p.s. check out the giveaway on my blog
It looks like you had a lot to be thankful for this week Barbara! I hope the upcoming week will be even nicer! Have a great weekend!
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, Barbara! Bless that lady at the post office too.
