Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. 1. The birthday of my daughter-in-law, Mittu. We went out to eat at Olive Garden Friday night — only my second time ever to have eaten there. Then on Sunday when the whole family was here we had a special meal, cake, and presents. Jeremy was able to join us via Skype.
It was such fun to buy girl things and wrap them in girly paper!
2. The end of basketball season. I do love that Jesse gets to play, but it’s always kind of nice when it’s over and we have practice and game times back.
3. A new Dinner For Six group. I’ve mentioned “Dinner For Six” before — it’s a program in our new church where people who want to participate are divided into groups of six and they take turns hosting each other for a meal for a few months, each bringing different parts of the meal. Our whole group in the last rotation ended up getting together only once due to illness and holidays and one family forgetting an appointed time. We signed up for the new rotation and met for dinner with our new group this week and really enjoyed getting to know them better.
4. Getting some organizational projects done. It would be too long and boring to give a detailed account, but I’d had a couple of ideas to try around the house and finally was able to work on them this week. One turned out well, the other I’m still contemplating and may have to try something different.
5. A writing project. I’ve had several ideas for writing floating around in my mind, and one just came into clear focus this week and I was able to make a beginning. I’ll tell you more about it if/when it comes to anything. 😀 In the meantime, if you’re so led, I’d appreciate your prayers.
Bonus: I finished a great book this week! I wanted to read it over again, but have too many others waiting for me.
Have a great weekend!

I got a good chuckle out of your son casually “modeling” is wife’s new outfit! HEhehe! It’s nice to hear a mother-in-law so delighted with her daughter-in-law (pink things, etc)…you don’t hear a lot of that…usually it’s more about how they aren’t good enough for the son. *sigh*
You finally have a daughter to buy cool things for! Mittu will be spoiled for sure. How sweet!
Did you buy her new jeans? 😉 I know the torn look is in, but I just can’t wrap my brain around it. I must be getting old! (Or maybe it’s just all the years I spent trying to cover up the fact that my clothes were old!)
I love the way technology helps Jeremy be part of the family gatherings. Now if there was just some way he could share the food, too!
The Dinner for Six idea sounds like a lot of fun. I like the idea that you rotate groups. What a great way to get to know people and keep the conversation fresh.
It sounds like your daughter-in-law married into a pretty terrific family:) I’m sure she feels very welcomed and loved!
How nice for you that you can now buy girly stuff! Now that I have a son-in-law, I’ll finally be able to buy manly stuff – lucky for me, he loves football memorabilia!
I love to accomplish organizational projects – it’s one of my very favorite things to do!
I know you’re enjoying buying girl stuff! Mittu is well-loved – I plan to look at my daughters-in-law as additions to the family rather than my sons being subtracted from the family! 😉
The Dinner for Six plan sounds great! I’d like to mention it to Wes as something for our church to do in the future, especially as we begin to grow.
I can’t wait to hear about your writing project! I will be praying for you as you work on it.
So glad you’re in a new round of Dinner for Six. Keep us updated on how it goes. I think that’s such a marvelous idea. Praying about your new writing project!
That’s great that you have a vision!
The girly stuff sounds fun for a mom of boys…
Love the dinner for 6 idea — low key and fun way to meet people. Out church just started a supper ministry where you can invite someone new to the church over for dinner. But just a dinner group sounds appealing to me.
Happy Birthday to Mittu! It looks and sounds as if she had an awesome birthday. Love the cake and the plates you chose.
I always have SO much fun buying and wrapping for my daughter-in-law! I know what you mean.
I’m praying for your writing, Barbara! Take care, and have a great week ahead.
Ha ha I hear ya on the basketball season one…..it’s nice to have a bit of a break before the spring sports start. 🙂 Love Skype, so glad you got to have fun with it! Love the Dinner for Six idea. 🙂
Hello Barbara. It sounds like a good week. It’s nice to celebrate your DIL and have fun with girly things for a change.
I like that dinner for 6 idea. Years ago we did dinners for 8. Have a great weekend.
Finishing a great book is a great feeling, so is celebrating a BD, especially at Olive Garden. Sounds like a great week!
Sounds like a great week!! My oldest daughter LOVES the Olive Garden…we eat there often (when the lines are not an hour wait which they get around here!) Blessings to you as you pursue your writing project….enjoy the weekend…
Sounds like you had a wonderful week.
I love organizing! It has led me to want to do some simplifying.
Good luck with the writing project.
Skype is the best! I love chatting with my daughter and grandson that way.
Happy Birthday to Mittu! I’m sure you made her day very special.
I love it when an organizing project comes together!
Happy belated birthday to Mittu! Loving all the pictures as always. Keep us posted on your writing project!
What a great week you had! So nice to see how good you and your DIL get along! She’s a very lucky girl to get all these nice presents! I love the gift wraps!
Happy Belated Birthday to your lovely daughter in law! I’ll bet is was different and fun doing up girl stuff for you! :v) Gotta love skype!
I know the feeling of being glad basketball season being over. I always loved going but all the busyness of the season does wear a mom out.
