Friday’s Fave Fives

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. I had to think more than usual to come up with five this week. It wasn’t a bad week, but there weren’t highlights or standouts. But the everyday blessings are just as much evidence of God’s love and care as the “big” ones, and here are a few:

1. Naps. I don’t know if it is due to the time change or what, but I have desperately needed a nap every day this week. I kind of hate to take time out of the day for a nap, but I am glad for the refreshment it brings.

2. Ceiling fans. It’s been a bit on the warm side the last day or two, but not enough to turn on the AC. A ceiling fan on low was just right. And on a related note, after the whopper winter utility bills, it will be nice to have a lower one since we haven’t used the heater much lately.

3. Garage. I may have mentioned this before — but it is still a favorite. 🙂 This is the first house we’ve ever had with a garage (though we had one with a carport) and it is so nice to bring groceries in without having to do so in the rain and go out to a semi-warm garage in the morning rather than shivering in the car til it warms up.

4. Sunshine. I think I have mentioned this before, too, but it has been an overcast week, and the occasional sunshine really lifts my spirits.

5. Kids who pitch in. Last Sunday Jason, Mittu and I were all home from church not feeling well. I woke up from a nap to realize it was time to start dinner, and when I came out into the kitchen, they had already started it and had the table set. And then Jesse is always good about doing anything I ask him with generally a good attitude.

It might be tomorrow before I am able to visit some of you — company tonight means housecleaning and food prep today. 🙂 Have a good weekend!

  1. It’s nice to have a garage. I remember those days. We have one but…navigating through it is an impossibility…

I love that “everyone pitching in” thing, too. Have a great evening with company!

  2. “But the everyday blessings are just as much evidence of God’s love and care as the “big” ones.”
    Amen.

It has taken me several days to adjust to the time change too. Glad you can take naps. Don’t feel guilty about it.

Oh how I love my garage! That and a garbage disposal are two of my favorite “house” things. 🙂

Enjoy your company and clean house!

  3. How wonderful to have good kids around! I want a “Jesse” in my life. Glad you had naps and sunshine. They energize and revitalize. Have a great housecleaning weekend.

  4. We have a garage but it’s not attached so I still have to carry things through the weather, so to speak, but it is definitely nice not having to sweep snow off, scrape windows and have a warmer start in the winter!

We had a crazy utility bill last month too and are looking forward to the break in the amount as the weather warms. We are a long way yet from using AC or even fans yet, though.

  5. I’ve been slowly adjusting to the time change. It felt good to sleep in this morning.

Love it when everyone helps out, and having dinner ready is just the best. Great kids!

    Enjoy your company tonight:)

  6. Have fun with your company tonight!

I’ve needed more and more naps too and I do’nt like taking them either for the interruption that I feel that they are. But alas. I seem to have no choice.

    This too shall pass?

Hope you have a great weekend!

  7. If you haven’t been feeling too well then naps are perfectly natural, it’s your body’s way of telling you you need to rest so don’t feel guilty about them!

I’m the same as you with sunshine. It can never fail to make me feel better about things. Happy Spring to you!

  8. We’ve “discussed” our love of naps before, Barbara…:-)….especially Sunday afternoon naps, hm? Since I’ve been taking care of little Jaylon…..26 months now!…..I take a nap every afternoon when he takes his. I have to or I wouldn’t be able to get through the rest of the day OR I would end up going to be at six o’clock when he goes home with his mommy!
It is so wonderful that Jason and Mittu just pitch in! You are blessed!
I’ve been so thankful for the sunshine, too! It does make me feel so much better!!
    Love reading your faves!!

  9. Oh that is a special treat to have a garage. I’m glad you are enjoying it. How special that your kids chip in with preparing meals…such a treat. We had a couple days with some sunshine this week and I know what you mean about it cheering you up. Enjoy your company!

  10. Barbara –

I don’t get the naps, but I get to sleep in some days. A good rest makes most days better!

I’ve subscribed to your blog and I’m looking forward to catching up on a few of your archived posts.

    Blessings to you and yours,

    Penny

  11. Oh how nice to have dinner started for you!!! 🙂 And we have had a garage for 16 years now and I STILL appreciate it. 🙂 Oh and yes a nap does me good too also.

  12. Ah, yes. We ran our ceiling fans today too—just as you say–not cool enough for the air conditioning. Naps, are lovely–I love the cozy feeling and the refreshed feeling!

  13. I have a garage. But it is filled, so it is more of a storage unit. Guess there are many blessings in that sentence!!

Love to hear about the everyday blessings. We all need to remember those.

    Julie

  14. We have a detached garage. I am always saying.. “This is simply ridiculous!!” I am glad you are enjoying yours. It is nice to have a dry garage! I’ve been loving not having the heat on, too. It looks like we’ll have to put it back on this week. Boo!
