Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Click on the button to learn more, then go to Susanne’s to read others’ faves and link up your own.
Here are a few highlights from this week:
1. A visit with a dear friend. I’ve mentioned my friend Carol in SC a few times here and there. She and her husband were in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area over the weekend, which is about an hour or so from us, and they drove over for Sunday dinner before heading back home. It was so good to see them again and to have them here!
2. Four Layer Dessert with chocolate this time!
3. A come-from-behind Scrabble move that wins the game. One friend I play Scrabble with via Facebook used to always beat me soundly, until I learned some of her moves (bwahahahaha). Now we go back and forth. In one game she had pulled ahead and it looked like she would win — but then I was able to go out with some unlikely letters and win. I love it when the game is close and suspenseful.
4. Dogwood trees. Back in SC, after the first crocuses, daffodils, and tulips bloom, spring’s next act is the dogwoods and azaleas. We’ve had dogwoods in nearly all of our yards over the years except at our very first home and this one, and I missed them. But in the last week or so I’ve seen many blooming around the neighborhood. Maybe some day we can plant one here, but in the mean time, I’ll enjoy them when I am out.
5. Eastern Redbuds. I’ve noticed these trees with lavender buds on them along the highway between here and church, and they’ve really brightened the view since many other trees don’t have their leaves yet. I wasn’t sure what they were, but a couple of people suggested Redbuds, and I think that’s right.
Sorry, no photos of either tree — I’m in the car when I see them.
Have a great weekend!

I know how you feel about seeing beautiful things from a speeding vehicle — no opportunity for a photo! Glad you got to enjoy some pretty signs of spring. And hurray for your Scrabble win! Going to check out your dessert post — sounds really good.
I love Redbuds…but think the person that named them didn’t know his colors well…they are lavender/purple buds. They are gorgeous. Our neighbor across the street has a pink and white dogwood tree and two pink cherry trees…they are almost “fairyland like” pretty. I’m enjoying Spring too!
Mmm Mmm good that dessert. Sounds wonderful. I play word with friends. I love it and I usually loose. It’s now tied into facebook as well. I love scrabble. You would think since I’ve started playing I would get better but no. LOL Lemme know if you wanna play. Those Redbuds look pink to me but they are beautiful 🙂 Sounds like a great week you had. 🙂 Have a great weekend.
I need you top teach me that scrabble move!
And I just commented on the 2007 pot you linked to with the dessert recipe!
I have been seeing the red buds blossoming too. They are gorgeous.
I would call the buds on the Redbud more of a fuschia color than lavender….we saw some white ones in Charleston which resembled the Redbuds we have here and sure enough when we looked it up we were right.
I love seeing the Spring trees, too….rarely are the Dogwoods and Redbuds blooming at the same time as they are this year…
Love to play scrabble but just play the computer.
Mama Bear
That dessert looks great! I’ll have to go back and take down that recipe.
I simply love dogwoods. We had tons of them, growing up.
How nice to see an old friend!
Sounds like a great week to me. Hope the next one is just as lovely.
I need to learn some come-from-behind Scrabble moves. My oldest daughter has been beating me the last few games and I am now the underdog!
I adore dogwood trees!
Spring is such a beautiful season isn’t it? It must be wonderful to have your friend over for a meal. That dessert sure sounds delicious!
I’ll use my imagination to see how lovely the trees were. I’m so much wanting spring this year and can hardly wait for the trees to bud out here.
It’s been a long time since I’ve played scrabble. Your bwhahaha cracked me up. You scrabble fiends get right into it. LOL.
Barbara, is that the dessert you made for us last weekend? It was delicious! I wouldn’t have even thought about using strawberies and bananas. That would be delicious, I’m sure. I’ll have to give it a try since strawberries are coming into season. We had a lovely time with you and the family! Thanks again!
I’m so late this week but I finally had some sit down time. Oh how I love dogwood trees. It’s been so long since I played scrabble. I’ll need to remedy that. Old friends are great to get together with. Looks like someone pulled through and gave you the name of the beautiful trees you saw. Hope your week goes well!
Love your faves list! I can sooo relate about the driving in a car and can’t take pics of what I see….I’ve passed some beautiful scenes this last week what with spring popping up all over my part of New York State! lol….enjoy the week ahead…
I’ve visited Tennessee in the springtime and I love the dogwoods there. When I saw a pink dogwood in the garden of my first home in Oregon I knew it was the right place for us! I’m glad for you that you had a vist from your friend–what a blessing!
