Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Here are some favorites from the past week:

1. These:

I’m glad they only make them this time of year!

2. Finishing my cross stitch project! More about that here.

3. A possible job lead for my son from a serendipitous encounter. I’ll say more about it if/when something works out, but I thought, “Wouldn’t it be just like God to bring it about in such a neat way?” Whether it’s this or something else, I know God has something for Him, and I guess a related praise is just the reassurance of that this week. I had been kind of discouraged when one very promising lead didn’t work out because of a new hiring freeze and because of the problems he had come up against in looking for a job, and I always knew on some level God would take care of things and open the right doors at the right time. One day this week my devotional book was full of verses about God knowing our needs and taking care of them, and that renewed my hope that He would take care of my kids’ needs, too.

4. Getting several things checked off a to-do list in one afternoon. I had some Mother’s Day shopping to do for my mother-in-law and “secret sister” at church, and then Jesse needed a new shirt and dress shoes for his upcoming Junior-Senior banquet. After not making any progress even after one trip to the mall earlier in the week, we knocked out all of that yesterday. Felt good!

5. Power naps. I was just dragging after doing a little bit of errand-running yesterday, and decided to call it a day and come home. But sleeping 20-30 minutes refreshed me enough to get back out and get everything else done later in the day. Sometimes when I take a nap, I end up sleeping too long or waking up too groggy, but this was just perfect.

We had a dreary, rainy day earlier in the week, but it’s been bright and sunshiny the rest of the week. We’ve had a bit of a cold snap, though. I actually like it in the 50s or so — the really hot weather will be here all too soon!

Happy Friday!

  1. Ah, getting things done — my favorite state of being 🙂 Looks like you had a really productive week. Nearly all of my job leads began like what happened to your son this week; those God-appointments that we couldn’t arrange ourselves 🙂

  2. I love the header too Barbara. Those peanut butter eggs are a big hit around here, too. Hope the job works out for your son. Pretty needlepoint…it must be fun to accomplish something pretty like that. Happy Mother’s Day weekend to you!

  3. it is so cool how god has encouraged you about your son’s employment. god is indeed mindful of all the details and people connected to all the events in our lives. thanks for that reminder.

i went secret sister shopping this week too (while picking up pain medications). unfortunately i couldn’t think of anything to get so i went with a gift card to a local coffee house.

i love your cross stitch picture. congrats. what a huge accomplishment. will you frame it yourself? i used to do xx and enjoyed it a lot. i don’t know why i ever stopped.

hope you have another great week.

  4. I will say a prayer for your son’s job. I love those Reese eggs too. I have a cross stitch that I started last summer. I should pick it up again.

  5. I love an occasional power nap as well, they really do make us feel wonderful. I also love crossing things off my “to do” list!

  6. Your cross-stitch is pretty!

I know what you mean about the Reese’s peanut butter eggs. I like the peanut butter cups all year, but the seasonal candies are especially fresh and delicious. 🙂

    Enjoy your weekend!

  7. I’ve never had one of those peanut butter eggs. Now I really want one and I doubt I’ll find one on this tiny island!

    Your cross stitch is lovely.

I am ailing again — seems I’m ill every time I turn around these days. Power naps are all that get me through the afternoon.

  8. I love seeing all the things marked off the to-do list! Lovely cross stitch!
Fingers crossed and prayers sent for the job possibility.

  9. I love getting stuff crossed of the to-do list! Especially several in a day.

Love your cross stitch. I used to love to cross stitch but haven’t done it for many years.

  10. I’m going to ignore the first picture….

What beautiful cross-stitching! I tried to learn how but it gave me a headache. My mom used to cross-stitch quite a bit and I think it looks lovely.

    Power naps. Yes and amen!
