The folks at 5 Minutes For Books host What’s On Your Nightstand? the fourth Tuesday of each month in which we can share about the books we have been reading and/or plan to read. You can learn more about it by clicking the link or the button.
This will overlap my Spring Reading Thing Wrap-Up a bit, but there is a little bit of difference, and different visitors.
Since last time I finished:
The Judgment by Beverly Lewis, second in The Rose Trilogy, reviewed here. Two Amish sisters make very different choices and then have to deal with the consequences.
Mine Is the Night by Liz Curtis Higgs, reviewed here. Second in a series based on the story of Ruth but set in 18th century Scotland.
The Deepest Waters by Dan Walsh, based on a true story of a newlywed couple whose ship sunk on their honeymoon, reviewed here.
Women’s Ministry in the Local Church by Ligon Duncan and Susan Hunt, reviewed here.
Goforth of China by Rosalind Goforth (original version), a missionary classic, just finished, hope to review soon.
I’m now reading No Distance Too Far, Book 2 in the Home to Blessing series by Lauraine Snelling. This book is about a young female doctor in 1904 trying to discern where the Lord is calling her to use her talents. thinking perhaps it is Africa but not being quite settled about it.
Up next: Carrie is hosting a Narnia Reading Challenge in July and I am committing to reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I’m not sure yet whether I’ll continue on in the Narnia series or go back to the stack of books waiting for me. I’ll have to see what I feel inclined to do when I get to that point. 🙂
Mine Is the Night reminds me of Jenna’s ballet recital this year. They depicted the story of Ruth set in Ireland. 😉 I would love to reread a Narnia book, but I’m going to pass this time. I’ll look forward to your review on No Distance Too Far.
A friend gave me an Amish fiction book to try just yesterday, which will be the first Amish novel I’ve read. Great list, Barbara!
I want to join in on the Narnia Challenge too, but so far I don’t have any titles lines up. I was thinking I might give the Dawn Treader movie another chance…
Narnia reading challenge sounds like fun but I understand what you mean by the stack of books waiting for you to be read. 🙂 I enjoyed reading your review on Women’s Ministry in the Local Church and I think I’m going to check it out myself! Happy reading!
Oh — and I forgot to put The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe on my list as well! I would like to participate with Carrie, and I want to read it with Kyle. UGH. Lots of reading I want to do aloud this month with the kids, and that takes time and discipline.
Beverly Lewis is a favorite! I always enjoy Amish stories. Enjoy your new month of reading!

I’m thinking of participating in the Narnia challenge.
Here is mine
Then I will cross my fingers and hope that you find Narnia SO intriguing that you go on with it. (Have you read them before? I’ve forgotten)
Yes, I have, a number of years ago. I’m frequently pulled between wanting to reread good old books and reading new ones.
I’m sure that once you get into the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe you will want to continue. I enjoyed this series as much if not more than my kids. We anxiously await the movies!
I have never read the Narnia series. Maybe I’ll have to give it a go if I can get through the books I have now.
Barbara,
Your discipline in reading is so admirable! You inspire me.
Oooohhh…I love the Narnia books so much that it just isn’t all that long since I reread them. I’d join the challenge if I could get them in French.

Some wonderful choices here! My husband read the Narnia books to my son last year and had a great time. My favorite Lewis book is Out of the Silent Planet.
