Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Here are a few faves from the past week:
1. Protein bars. I just discovered them. I think I knew about them but just recently tried some. I have a low blood sugar, and they help over that “low” that sometimes comes mid-morning or afternoon. And the ones with chocolate satisfy that craving.
2. The cool button on my hair dryer. Just drying my hair can induce sweatiness: it feels so good to blow some cool air after all the heat.
3. This single serving pizza has a really good flavor and makes for an occasional nice lunch along with a few carrots.
4. My mother-in-law’s physical therapist. She saw one at her last assisted living place, and he’s the one who got her set up with a walker. But the therapy stopped once she got stable with it. Now she is having an increasingly hard time getting up from her chair, and the nurse at her new place recommended a physical therapist which, thankfully, her Medicare and supplemental insurance are taking care of, plus he comes to her place rather than having to bundle her off somewhere. We don’t know how much her problem is just aging and how much is just the fact that decreased activity leads to decreased ability. But I am glad they have someone working with her…and that she’s willing, for now, to do what he says. 🙂
5. Jesse’s coming home! OK, that doesn’t happen til tomorrow, but I can count the anticipation today! He’s been away at a combination camp and mission trip with his youth group for ten days — the longest he has been away from home before. It’s been awfully quiet around here.
It will probably be later tonight or tomorrow before I can catch up with you — company coming tonight means cleaning and cooking today! Have a great weekend!
(Oh, by the way — those of you who guessed last week that my new cross stitch project, at least the part I’ve done so far, was a nest are correct. Good work!

So nice for you to find foods that work for you! I know everything is better when it’s fresher, but for protein bars, this is very important because the off-flavors of proteins are more pronounced for older bars. Hope your son had a great time away and that he enjoys being home again!
I’m trying to imagine having my kids leave and then being excited that they are coming back. That seems so far away. I suppose it isn’t, in the grand scheme of things. Today I’ll think of THAT in being content in the home with the littles, knowing that one day I’ll be in your shoes being ecstatic because they are coming home again!
I can imagine you’re anxious to have your son home again! Thank God for that physical therapist, I hope your MIL gets better soon!
Hope you’ll have a great evening and a wonderful weekend Barbara!
I’m a fan of protein bars — they help tide me over that 3:00 snack attack. And I’ll only eat ones that have chocolate. 🙂 Excited for you about your son coming home!
I’ll bet you’ll be dancing tomorrow when you see your boy! My youngest is away on a mission and training program too for 3 weeks! It’s been awfully quiet around here and I really miss her.
I can have pizza any time, any day! And the single serving would be perfect for me who tends to overdo it with the pizza.
I wonder if my hair dryer has a cool button?I will have to look. I don’t use it very often but when I do it is always on high heat.
Hurray for physical therapists. I am partial to them right now and know how much they can encourage our determination and help our bodies move better. So glad your m-i-l has a good one.
Have a great week, Barbara.
I’ll have to look for the single serving California pizza. Didn’t realize they come that way.
And yay for “cool buttons.” Gratitude comes in all shapes and sizes!
How wonderful that the P.T. is helping your mom. My mother-in-law has had a lot of experience with rehab of late, and her P.T. was an angel. Such a huge blessing.
I know what you mean about physical therapists. When my mom was hospitalized in Dec., they sent her home with a visiting therapist and it was great.
Hope Jesse has a great time at camp! Have a great week ahead.
That pizza looks really yummy, I’ll have to keep my eyes open for it. It is hard to blow dry the hair in the heat, and that cool setting is wonderful
By now Jesse is home. That must feel good! I hope he had a great time!
We love protein bars, too. I have one for breakfast a lot of the time.
I’m glad your mom is getting the PT she needs.
My non food allergy son loves those pizzas. His favorite is the white pizza with chicken and spinach.
We discovered protein bars over the winter. I love them as a quick pick me up in the morning.
Glad Jesse is home! Hope he had a nice time.
If you buy CPK, you need to buy the bbq chicken one, YUM!! 🙂
