Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Click on the button to learn more, then go to Susanne’s to read others’ faves and link up your own.

Here are a few favorites from the past week:

1. Jeremy’s birthday and visit. My oldest son came down from RI last Thursday through Tuesday and we celebrated his birthday over several days. Though technology has greatly helped span the gap, there’s still nothing like having a loved one actually here.

2. A computer fix. My last Firefox update created some annoying problems — not major, but bothersome. Jeremy was able to fix those and it has made my computer time so much nicer.

3. Aussie Sydney Smooth No Frizz hair gel. My hair is a mess without it.

4. Jesse’s getting his driver’s license. Earlier this week I confessed I had mixed emotions about this, but it has been nice already that he can take himself to and from school.

5. Getting up earlier. I never thought I’d say that — not setting my alarm clock is one of the best parts of summer. But over the summer I tend to stay up later and later and then get up later — I don’t sleep more than usual, just at different times. Yet I do feel I get more accomplished when I get up earlier even if I do need a nap during the day. So school starting this week and the change in schedule is a good thing, but it is taking me a few days to adjust.

Bonus: I got word just this morning that an article I submitted to a magazine was accepted. 😀 I’ll let you know when it comes out, which may be any time within the next two years.

Have a great weekend! My birthday is on Sunday, and since that’s a busy day, we’re doing some celebrating Saturday and then having cake on Sunday after church. I’m not at the age yet that I don’t enjoy birthdays — I think I always will!

  1. With my twin sister (and best friend) in New York and my fiance in Cambodia, I certainly appreciate the technologies of skype and even email, but nothing can replace experiencing life TOGETHER. Glad Jeremy could come home for his birthday! Enjoy your new morning routine – I love mine!! And a big congratulations on your published article!!!!!!

  2. I’m going to have to buy that hair gel. My hair is in a season of frizz and when I will be visiting my daughter in North Carolina I know I’ll need it even more!
Glad you had a fun visit with your son for his birthday. I think I’m finally going to get to see our middle son this weekend. I haven’t seen him since March.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. I’m always a little hesitant to upgrade to the newest Firefox. Glad Jeremy was able to help you out with the bugs. And also glad you’re already feeling better about him driving.

Congrats on your magazine article. Do let us know when it comes out!

Have a great birthday on Sunday! You’re never too old to enjoy birthdays.

  4. I have a son who’s just working on his license. I like having a chauffeur for a year! That way he gets lots of practice under mama’s watchful eye.

Happy Birthday, in Hebrew we say Yom Chuladet Sameach

  5. Congrats on your article! Good confirmation of your writing talent — which the blogosphere already knows about, of course. 🙂

Happy b-day. Mine is Saturday; seems like I remember this about us from previous years.

  6. I am like you and enjoy celebrating Birthdays….
As usual, I enjoyed reading this post…I know you enjoyed having Jeremy home and its nice to not have to get out first thing in the morning and take Jesse to school…I am like you in that I stay up late and sleep until 7:30 or 8:00….Honey Bear is a morning person so he is ready to go to bed earlier. We’ve always gone to bed together when he’s home…I read for a while and he goes on to sleep but when he’s gone I’m up until 11 or 12….so an adjustment will have to be made when he is here every night.
Congratulations on the publish of your article.
    Happy Birthday!
    Mama Bear

  7. Sounds like you’re going to have a birthday weekend! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

So great that Jeremy was home. And kudos to your youngest for getting his license. There is a bit of freedom in that, even for Mom! I don’t know if I’ll ever be happy about setting the alarm…! :0)

Yes, it IS your Chicken Pot Pie recipe that is such a hit at my house, Barbara! And the news of your article is SO great!! We need to know more — tell us all about it!

    Have a great week ahead.

  8. Re the article — it was accepted, but that means it is on file for two years and may or may not actually be used. So I’ll wait to say more if it is actually published. 🙂

  9. Hey, that’s really great about your article! Your writing style is very clear and engaging — I hope you’ll get more opportunities like this. And a unique early birthday present for you. So glad you had some fun (and helpful) times with Jeremy.

Regarding where I live — believe me, mild summers are a rarity in Southern California!

  10. Happy Birthday Barbara, I hope you have a wonderful day!
I tend to get up earlier in Summer than in Winter, and I love to blog in the early hours of the day. That way, I’m done before the “real” day starts and I’m ahead of things! Have a great weekend!

  11. Happy birthday to you TODAY (I’m late commenting on FFFs) and I’m so happy for you that you were able to spend time with your son!
