Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week, wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Here are a few highlights from the past week:
1. The children’s Christmas program at church. Even though we don’t have little ones any more and I don’t know half of these little ones in our new church, it’s still so sweet to see all the miniature angels, shepherds, and wise men. They have the very littlest ones in animal costumes — so cute! I hope and pray the message they proclaim takes root in their hearts as well as the listeners.
2. Jesse’s school Christmas program. The seniors do a “reader’s theater” type play and various other classes and groups sing. Jesse was the “mission preacher,” also known as “the man in the suit,” who was able to tell little “Jimmy” how to be saved. The guy who played Jimmy is one of his closest friends at school. The whole evening went very well, and he was so glad to get it over with — though he had a pretty small part, he was nervous about it. There were a few pangs for Mama in realizing this was the last Christmas program I would have a child in…
3. Pink poinsettias. I don’t usually buy poinsettias, but when I saw this pink one in the grocery store I had to get it.
4. Sunshine. The first part of this week was dreary, overcast, rainy, with several areas flooding (thankfully not affecting roads, but we have several spontaneous lakes and ponds in the area when there is a lot of rain). But the sun shone bright yesterday and today, and it was so welcome. Still cold, but the sunshine makes a lot of difference.
5. My garage. I’m pretty sure I have mentioned it before. But after spending twelve winters scraping frost off windshields and bringing groceries in through the rain, it is so nice to bring the car into a dry and relatively warm space! And I am thankful my husband and son are gallant and chivalrous enough to let me have that space even though they leave the house earlier and have to deal with the frost more on their cars.
I don’t know about you all, but for us most of the Christmas “events” have been sandwiched into this week. Besides the pageant and program already mentioned, our ladies’ Christmas party is tonight, Sunday School potluck is this Sunday, open house at my mother-in-law’s assisted living place Sat. night, and the adult Christmas program Sunday night (thankfully I am just an observer for that!) I’ve bought Christmas cards but haven’t addressed them or done hardly any shopping. It’s a busy but enjoyable time! Hope you have a great weekend.

I received the cookbook today. Thanks so much for your generous giveaway.
Barbara,
Thanks for sharing your life. I really enjoyed the pink poinsettia and the happy Christmas spirit you have. :o) We are “John-proofing” the house. Our daughter and her family are coming–with almost one-year-old busy John. My husband is making a fence around our wood stove, so we don’t have any burn accidents from a speedy crawler. I’ve been working on decorating for Christmas and cleaning a few places that needed it. :o) It is fun to be preparing for Christmas–and family this year!
God bless you!
Lou Ann
Jenna had her last Christmas chorus concert this week too. Bittersweet. And like you with the program at church, even though I didn’t know all the younger chorus students, it was still fun watching them perform. Or not–those are cute too–they just stand there and stare. ha.
Love the pink poinsettia! I’m hoping my daughter who works for a landscaping company will bring me one soon. 😉
Oh, I do love watching the kids at Christmas! This is a big Christmasy weekend for us, too. Lots of celebrating ahead.
Bittersweet days with a senior in the house…I know that feeling. Do enjoy!
And Frank was cute!
One thing about the south, when its cold the sun usually shines, then we have a warm up and rain or snow/sleet….we had the wintry mix Wednesday while I was out with Daughter, but yesterday and today have been sunny but chilly….I usually go to the Christmas program. I miss the old fashioned plays we used to have. These are more of a major production. Maybe i should find a smaller church and go see their program…I know what you mean about the garage. We’ve had to do without whenever we were between houses and lived in apartments. I’ll have to say, having Jim here to go grocery shopping with me and help unload and put away is a blessing to me.
Have a good weekend,
Mama Bear
I love pink poinsettias too, but while we were out last week buying some poinsettias for the platform at church, Wes said, “I don’t like those pink ones” just as I was about to say how much I loved them! LOL
Your soon looks quite handsome as the preacher! I’m sure he did a great job, even though he was nervous!
Oh, I love and appreciate that you would go to the children’s program at your church. It’s nice to see people like you there.
And hurray for the shelter of the garage! =D
Hope you have a great weekend!
I enjoyed being involved in various Christmas programs through the years. I haven’t been involved the past several years, but still enjoy going to them. Tomorrow is an Christmas tea my daughter’s Missionette’s class is sponsoring. I’m looking forward to it.
I love the different colors pointsetta’s are showing up in!
We have a garage but it’s not attached so I still end up bringing things in through the weather but I sure am thankful I don’t have to scrape and clean off the van in the winter.
Boy, I am late late late to the Friday Faves, but better than never, huh? I completely agree with you on the pink poinsettias — irresistible! Glad you have a cozy place for your car. And your Christmas holiday event schedule sounds a little like mine. So full of good things but a little too tightly packed!
