Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week, a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Click on the button to learn more, then go to Susanne’s to read others’ faves and link up your own.

Here are a few favorites from this past week:

1. Celebrating my daughter-in-law’s birthday.

2. Seeing the first daffodils in bloom. This winter hasn’t been bad, but those first signs of spring are still uplifting.

3. Working on my recipe book I mentioned a few weeks ago while watching episodes I’ve missed on the computer. There are a few shows that I am interested in but my family isn’t, but it seems a waste of time to just sit and watch them by myself in the daytime, which is my prime work time. But while putting clipped recipes in a notebook at my desk, where I can spread everything out, it’s been enjoyable to catch a few of those shows online while working on it. And a subpoint here: I love those network sites that put their shows online the day after they run rather than waiting a week or even 30 days!

4. The Laura Ingalls Wilder Reading Challenge. It’s been so fun to just immerse myself in books by and about her this month. Even while I am looking forward to moving on to other things, I am going to miss stopping the series…but I need to save some for next year. This may be a good way to explore other authors in the future as well.

5. This is a life favorite rather than just a favorite from this week, but recently I’ve had a renewed appreciation for being able to be a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. I’m so grateful.

Overall it has been a pleasant week here. I hope it has been for you as well — and if not, may next week be better.

  1. I agree, Barbara, being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker was the greatest joy and privilege. I miss those days and that life style.

I haven’t started my own cookbook yet, but reading about it here, reminded me to at least put it on the to-do list. It sure will be a great resource.

Daffodils are my favourite spring flowers. They are such sunny, hopeful plants. I wrote about them in my fff post too.

Happy birthday to Mittu as well. How fun to celebrate with the whole family due to face-time.

  2. Seeing the daffodils makes me happy too.

    # 5 is a biggie for me, too, even though I admit I have days where I sometimes question my worth because of it. Thankfully in those times I have a husband who never ceases to affirm how special it is to him that I’m willing to stay home. It’s truly where I want to be.

I have a friend who started a job a couple weeks ago after being a stay at home mom for almost 20 years. It’s not been an easy transition for anyone in the family, but it makes me appreciate even more my option to stay home. I never want to take it for granted. We make sacrifices to do it, but it’s worth it to each one of us.

  3. I just finished reading yet another chapter of Little House aloud before putting the kids down for their nap. Thanks again for this very fun experience.

Hope you have a very pleasant and enjoyable weekend!

  4. After I finished reading Little House on the Prairie, I wanted to immediately read the next in the series . . . and then I remembered I have to leave something to read next year! LOL I haven’t decided if I’m going to “cheat” yet or not. Glad you had a good week! It’s been a good one here, as well.

  5. Well, it’s not like we have much of “winter” here, but the anticipation still happens each year as green shoots sprout from the ground. Enjoy your daffs 🙂 Sounds like your time with Mittu went great (frosting mishap notwithstanding!).

  6. I am also blessed to be a stay at home mother. I thank my husband for this all the time.

I love the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and have read them all several times. I recently picked up The Wilder Life by Wendy McClure, but haven’t read it yet. I hope to soon.

We still have a while to wait before we see Daffodils here in NY, but I am looking forward to it!

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

  7. Oh I would love to read those books!! Have never read them!

That’s so neat that you’re working on a recipe book. I don’t cook (I hate to cook) but my husband puts together some great meals. Maybe I’ll have him make a recipe book, lol

I think a stay-at-home-mom and homeaker is the BEST job!!

  8. Daffodils already? That’s amazing. I love the colors of spring flowers. And I love how they push their blooms up through our spring snows.

Next year I really want to make the time to join this reading challenge. I remember loving the Little House books as a child.

  9. I’ve always loved daffodils–ours have come up, bloomed, and died down already although I did spy one in my neighbor’s garden this week.

I love Laura Ingalls Wilder books too!
