Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week, a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. It’s been a great week. Here are some of the high points:

1. Shish kebobs. Jim got some shish kebob equipment for Christmas, and since he was off Friday and the weather was nice he tried it out.

He had three different cuts of beef, mainly to experiment to find which was best (and cheapest was not best…), chicken prepared two different ways (I liked the teriyaki best), and a variety of vegetables. I really liked the squash and zucchini. We found that the store salad bar is a good place to pick up bits of cut up vegetables especially if you don’t know if you’ll like it well enough for whole ones. He didn’t mix up the meat and veggies on skewers so as to make it easier for people to pick what they wanted.

2. Easter. It was just a wonderful day. The special morning service was uplifting and inspirational, the food was scrumptious, we had our annual egg hunt with coins rather than candy in the plastic eggs, some time with Jeremy on the phone, and a game with the family in the evening. A mix of faith, family, and fun, enough tradition to be enjoyable but not enough to get bogged down.

(Maybe it’s the sunglasses, but Jesse looks a little sneaky here…)

3. Leftovers for lunch. My favorite thing to do for lunch is just warm up leftovers, and between Easter and the shish kebobs I’ve had a good assortment to choose from all week.

4. Lovely weather. It’s been a little cooler this week but bright and pleasant.

5. The Majesty and Glory of the Resurrection CD.

It’s kind of become a tradition that I listen to it on Easter Sunday morning while preparing breakfast. I’ve enjoyed listening to it throughout this week. It’s the only CD I know of specifically focusing on the Resurrection of Christ, though there may be others I’m unaware of.

Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. Oh the kabobs look delish!! Those are my favorite things to put on the grill. Thanks for the information about the CD. I’m always looking for music to add to my collection and I’ll have to check this one out.

  2. Oh my goodness….all that yummy food!!! I love shish kebobs but sure don’t have the equipment to do it on a large scale like your husband did! Easter is such a special time…..i also wrote about the fun, family and faith times…..HAPPY FFF and enjoy the weekend

  3. Sounds like a great Easter to me! I LOVE shish kebobs! But Jonathan doesn’t so oh well. (I enjoy them at other people’s houses!) Or I enjoy pictures of the goodies. 😉

By the way, I keep meaning to say thanks for mentioning Once Upon a Time. We were wondering if there were any good shows on these days (our favorites were on break) and I told Jonathan I was willing to give Once Upon a Time a try since you mentioned that you liked it. I figured if you did, then it was clean enough to enjoy. Boy howdy is it! We LOVE it! The story(ies) are just fantastic and we’re frequently surprised by the turn of events. So, thanks!

  4. Oh my goodness, this makes me want shish kabobs!

I always enjoy your fave 5 posts. They always make me want to do one of my own, but in the meantime I ride along on your gratitude. It’s contagious.

  5. The shish kebabs sound so yummy. Looks like your hubby has got serious kebab cooking equipment. I would have never thought about getting the veggies from a store salad bar. Neat idea, and they’re already cleaned and cut up for you.

I am grateful for the beautiful weather we have been having as well. I love sunny cool days!

  6. Those shish kabobs look delicious! I need to try making those one of these days! I love to reheat leftovers for lunch as well. I’m just not a sandwich fan anymore, so I only eat them when I am on the go.

  7. That is my favorite Easter CD as well. I remember when it first came out, and Bruce McAllister came into the office raving about it. He was right…it is powerful, and so uplifting!

  8. It’s almost dinner time here and those shish kebabs are making me hungry! Your week sounds like a wonderful one, especially Easter.

  9. Now you have my mouth watering and it’s not even 9 a.m. LOL. Those look wonderful. I might just have to invest in shish kebab equipment.

It’s wonderful to keep some of the Easter traditions of the family even though the kids are grown. Jessie does look like he’s trying not to get caught doing something. LOL.

  10. Im’ so impressed with how thoroughly you all tested out the shish kebab kit. Everything looks delicious and you figured out what tasted the best 🙂 Sounds like you had a worshipful and wonderful week.

  11. Hi Barbara,

I came looking for quotes, but I found myself drooling over these yummy photos. How I wish I’d have been there!

    Sally
