It’s been a rather heavy week for many friends and family members. In my extended family just within the last week, two have been diagnosed with cancer, one struggling with a drug addiction had a relapse, and my husband’s uncle passed away. Then there have been serious illnesses among many friends’ families. It is always good to look for and acknowledge God’s blessings, but in those times perhaps it is even more necessary and helpful than others. Here are a few high spots from the last week:
1. Snow! I think it was just a week ago that we were experiencing almost summer-like weather. I remember saying that I don’t mind a mild winter at all, but I was hoping we’d get at least one good snow before it was all over, and we got it last night.
2. Sunshine. We haven’t seen it in at least 1 and 1/2, maybe two weeks.
3. Cessation of rain. It has been raining almost constantly for days.
Sorry to be so weather-related, but that has greatly affected the last week or two!
4. Safety driving. Wednesday we had some of the hardest rains after more than a week of steady rain, and one of the main roads I travel was flooded. I had to go the back way into our neighborhood, which is made up of very narrow roads — not too bad normally, but a bit tense since all traffic was rerouted that day. I almost got side-swiped by a school bus turning onto the street I was on. Then last night hubby and kids all made it home safely in the inclement weather — the interstate my husband usually travels was blocked for 3 hours, I think due to an accident, but he got off and came the back way, so was spared that wait.
5. Good books, good food, good programs, good music, all brighten up the days.
Most of all I am grateful for God’s presence with His children and His grace for every moment.

So many of us have had hard news this week. I’m sorry to hear about yours. And thankful with you for safety in the midst of all that weather.
I’m sorry about all the bad health reports you’ve had this week. Our bodies provide a reliable source of trouble. 😦
We didn’t get near as much snow as you did. (Ours stayed only a couple hours.) But the rain, rain, rain has been so heavy forever (it seems). So glad to see the sunshine this morning!
You and I are opposite. Rainy days are motivating to me!! I like them better than sunny ones. Been praying for you. 🙂
wOW, Are we living in a twin dimensionn… very much the week I HAD! God bless us!
I enjoyed your weather related post! 😉 Great FFF! Have a blessed week!
Glad you have found ways to overcome the dreary weather. Sorry for the troubles with those around you. I hope your weekend is filled with joy and maybe even a little sunshine!!
‘Good books, good food, good programs, good music’ … you said it all!
You’re so right — His presence is the best blessing. He really is by our side in the midst of all the heartache. Hang on to that!
Beautiful snow picture! Hope you have a good week, ahead, Barb, filled with His presence.
I am so sorry to hear of the drug relapse and the health related issues your extended family is facing. And my condolences to your husband and his family in their loss.
Sounds like you are having quite the weather your way.
Thanks for still joining in and looking for blessings in a very difficult week.
So sorry it’s been a rough week. Praying that the Lord will comfort and strengthen your loved ones.
I think snow is much prettier and cheerier than rain in winter. We have a snowy day today with beautiful sunshine – it’s very cold though, so I’m enjoying it through the window 🙂
There’s so much happening around you–I know you look hard for the positive things. I’m glad you enjoy the snow 🙂 It never snows here and I don’t mind. Weather related problems while driving always make it harder so I’m glad your family got home safely.
I’m sorry to hear it has been such a hard week, Barbara, but glad that you and yours are all safe from the traffic and weather and enjoying your blessings. Your point #5 reminds me of something I read just this week, in a book called Friendship by Joseph Epstein (not a Christian book, but one I enjoyed nonetheless). The author was talking about one of his friends, a youthful 78-year-old who is still full of life. “Despite his living with some of the same difficulties that in one form or another confront us all, this contentment seems near complete. Some while ago he made the sound decision to savor every aspect of his life, from his morning coffee to the music he plays on his superior sound system to the view outside his study windows to every morsel of food he puts in his mouth.” For some reason, I think of his words every night as I lay down on my soft bed, enjoying my cushy pillow, the roof over my head, my sweet husband beside me. There is so much to be thankful for.
Wow! Look at the snow – we haven’t gotten our snow yet this winter… but it sure is cold today.
