Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

It’s nice to be in April! Although we’ve had nights down in the 30s and we had to turn the heater back on, the days have been pleasant. I love this time of year before the heat of summer sets in. Here are some of the best parts of the last week:

1. Easter. We had a nice service at church, a good meal, and an Easter egg hunt with toys in the eggs for Timothy and money for the older kids.

And a couple of candy-filled bunnies.

And a real one came by!

2. New furniture. I’ve mentioned furniture shopping on a few Saturday mornings. Our sofa and loveseat were getting worn: the sofa had developed obvious and growing holes on the seat. We finally made a purchase, which was delivered Thursday!

3. A good report at the dentist’s and getting that over with for another six months. And though going to the dentist is about my least favorite thing to do, I am glad we have good dental care in our country.

4. Great-grandma speaking. Jim’s mom has been mostly silent for I don’t know how long now – a year, maybe more. All of a sudden the last several days, she’s been saying a few words here and there. We can’t always understand her, but often she’s clear, and it’s been nice to have that form of communication again.

5. Spring closet changeover. I always love getting my spring clothes out and putting the dark, heavy winter ones away.

Bonus: Tulips! This is the first time I have ever had tulips in my yard, and I am so glad they’re coming up and thriving!

Happy Friday!

  1. O how i just love tulips! My green shoots are up but too cold for the blooms here yet.

Your new living room furniture looks very nice!!

Yay for Easter and the egg hunts!

And yay for good dental care and check ups. One of my least faves too but thankful for health coverage and a good dentist!

    Enjoy the weekend, Barbara

  2. “…been mostly silent for I don’t know how long now – a year, maybe more.”

What happened (if it’s ok to ask)?

Love the tulips and the hopefulness of Spring!

    • No problem at all to ask. 🙂 It’s just a part of losing her abilities. She’s 89, and over the last 10 years she went from a walker to a wheelchair to being bedridden. She pretty much only moves her head and hands. She started having trouble swallowing about 5 years ago and had to have all her food pureed. And then she stopped speaking – whether she lost muscle control so that she couldn’t or lost the mental process to remember how to do it any more, we don’t know.

  3. How fun that a real bunny came by the Easter egg hunt! It’s always fun to get new furniture, and it looks really nice. The dentist is not my favorite thing either, but I am faithful about going every 6 months. I wish my kids were, after all that money we spent at the orthodontist (grrrrr). I’m looking forward to getting the Spring clothes out, too! How nice for all of you that Jim’s mom is able to communicate with you a little bit. God bless her. I haven’t seen any tulips in my garden yet. . . . thanks for sharing yours!

  4. He must have had a lot of fun with Easter egg hunting and even a real bunny showed up ! Timothy becomes a big boy ! I love your new sofas ! I think we should buy new once too !

  5. What a lot of good news! Timothy looks so grown up here. I love your green grass and the real bunny! Love the new furniture too. If the old had holes, I think you can truly feel that you wore them out 🙂

  6. I put my winter sweaters away and took out my spring clothes and it dumped snow on us. LOL. This winter has been quite crazy. How fun that a real bunny crashed your Easter egg hunt. Looks like everyone was having a great time especially Timothy! Nice new furniture, that is always fun getting that. And how awesome that Jim’s mom is saying a little something again.

  7. How encouraging that Mom is talking a bit. Hopefully that means she is more aware of things. Your new furniture is lovely. What fun Timothy had on Easter. He is such a handsome lad.
Have a blessed day, my friend and stay warm!

  8. The photos of your Easter egg hunt were cute. Timothy obviously loves spending time with you. Did he think that was the real Easter bunny who hopped past?
Good news on your mother in law, too.
The transitional weather we are having makes it hard to know how to dress–I’m doing lots of layers because I never know how the day will end–the wind can be either cold or hot.
You made a good choice on the furniture-Nice!
