Friday’s Fave Five

The Fridays keep coming, seemingly faster each week. It’s good to pause in the busyness to remember and give thanks for the good things of the week with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Dinner and photos. We had the family over Saturday night to hear about my youngest son’s trip to RI to visit my oldest. Jesse doesn’t take a lot of pictures, but he did manage a few. It was fun to hear more about the trip.

2. Pudding Chip cookies, recipe here. I don’t bake much any more with just the two of us, especially with my husband working hard to keep his blood sugar down. So it was a treat to whip up a batch of cookies for the family get-together and send some home with the kids. I substituted King Arthur Measure for Measure Gluten-Free Flour for the flour called for, since we have a couple of gluten-intolerant members, and everything came out fine.

3. Discovering a beautiful song. While baking, I had BBN Radio on. I heard a new-to-me song titled “This Is the Will of God.” The voices, melody, harmonies, and rich lyrics all captivated me. I was going to email BBN to find out who had sung the song. But then I decided to poke around YouTube and see if it was there. It was!

The notes on YouTube share how the song grew out of the author’s study about God’s will. The group is Forever Be Sure. I spent a little time reading their “about” articles and listening to some of their other songs. I look forward to listening to more!

4. An uneventful cardiologist’s visit. I felt like I could just phone in this one rather than driving half an hour to this appointment, except for their having to do an EKG and listen to my heart every visit. But it’s good, very good, that things have been normal and there are no new issues! I see the physician’s assistant every other visit and love talking to her. She answered a couple of long-time questions I had not been clear on. Maybe by the time I see the doctor in December, we can go to once-a-year visits instead of every six months.

5. Afternoon shopping and errands. I’ve been wanting to visit the large At Home store which is just down the street from the cardiologist’s office. So I figured I’d wait til I was on that side of town. I didn’t find quite what I wanted, but at least now I’ve got visiting that store out of my system. I enjoyed roaming around the store.

Also in the same area is a Great American Cookie shop. I love their peanut butter cookies and hadn’t had them in a long time. In all honesty—they weren’t quite as good as I remember them. Maybe Crumbl Cookies surpassed them. But Crumble Cookies changes their selection every week, which can be fun—but I always know GAM will have their familiar fare.

And that wraps us this week. How was yours?

  1. So glad your cardiologist visit went well. That cookie recipe sounds good! Will have to give it a try sometime. Beautiful song. Thank you for sharing it. Have a good weekend!

  2. My week was busy with writing and playing with grandchildren and neighborhood children. We enjoyed the bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and doing lots of science experiments for kids. 🙂 Have a blessed weekend!

  3. YUM for all the cookies 🙂 I don’t know that song, but it’s really pretty. YouTube is such a great tool. Yay on the good cardiologist visit! I too love when I have a dr or PA I’m comfortable with and feel like I can really talk to. Happy weekend!

  4. Glad the cardio visit went well. I’m sure it was lovely to hear about your son’s trip and have family time. Have a good weekend.

  5. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this song. You have no idea how I needed this, this Friday afternoon. It’s beautiful and I’m going to add it to my playlist on my phone for car rides.

I’m so happy for you that your cardiology appt went well and that you had family time with yummy cookies. I looked at your recipes and your one called Congo Cookies is a recipe that totally matches one I just made called Chippy Blonde Brownies. (recipe handed down from my mom).

We just got a Crumbl cookie store in town but when i saw the ingredients and the price I said NO WAY. WHY are they so expensive????

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  6. I always love to hear about the times my daughters spend together. When I am gone they will have each other so I want them to remain close. Cookies sound delicious. My husband has to keep his blood sugar down as well and I have been eating mostly plant-based so we don’t do cookies often either.

  7. Glad your cardio visit went well! I was able to finally find a good Dr. and clinic in our new home in Ohio. The first visit took forever to talk about all my issues ( osteoporosis, sore knee, etc). Thankfully my heart is strong too. I love the Forever Be Sure songs. Thanks for sharing. I had not heard this song either. The At Home store was a lifesaver as I furnished my rental property. It is too fun in there, though! Glad Jessie had a good trip to see Jeremy!

    • So good to see you here, Val! I’m glad you found a good doctor. I wish the At Home store was closer to us, but I love meandering through it whenever I am on that side of town.

  8. Well, with family expectations, I’m glad Jesse managed to have some photos to share about his trip. I have a friend like that — he went to an event known for its visual spectacles and took not one photo.

What a blessing to have uneventful doctor visits! Glad you made it through this one and an attentive PA to talk with.

Thanks for introducing that beautiful piece. Love the a capella arrangement. Just bought their Even There album 🙂

  9. Glad that your cardio appointment was noneventful! Even though those type of visits feel pointless when there’s no change, it’s still good to get the “no news is good news” reports. 🙂

  10. That’s good that your cardio appointment went smooth. I think nobody likes to go to the doctor ! Physically I am feeling better, but I am still not myself !

  11. Beautiful harmonies in that song. I’m glad your cardiologist appt went well. It’s a huge rare occasion that I bake. My husband doesn’t eat sweets at all anymore and so that would leave me eating everything and if it’s there it’s hard for me to resist. I’ll occasionally bake for the dayhome kids but this bunch I have right now are so picky that it really is not worth the effort.
