June is flying by quickly, and it’s Friday once again. Time to gather with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to think back through the best parts of the week.
1. Father’s Day. I felt bad about Jim grilling on the day set aside to honor him. It seemed like I should have cooked something while he sat with his feet up. But grilling is what he wanted to do, and we all love his burgers. 🙂 It was actually a group effort, with different ones contributing food or tasks. Mittu made a tasty spice cheesecake. We FaceTimed with Jeremy while Jim opened presents from us all. It was a great day.
2. Four solid hours of sleep. I wake up several times at night due to various physical issues. Once I’m awake, I have to get up and go to the bathroom. I usually get back to sleep pretty easily. But one night last week, I slept over four hours without interruption. It was lovely and refreshing. I wish I knew what made the difference so I could try to replicate the conditions.
3. Zaxby’s ice. I love their food, too. But I also look forward to their munchy crunchy ice. Along with my meal, I get a cup of just ice and bring it home to pour my own decaf tea over it. I usually have more than half a cup of ice left, which keeps well overnight in their insulated cup in the refrigerator so I can do it again the next day. A simple but much-enjoyed pleasure.
4. Planters filling out. I didn’t take a picture when we first planted these in May, because they looked pretty sparse then. But they grew quickly. The only disappointment was that I had a few pink petunias there that didn’t make it for some reason. But the purple ones really took off.
5. Unexpected Take-out. I was at the computer yesterday afternoon when Jim came in to get a cup of coffee. He asked if I had any dinner plans and whether I’d want to order something out—not from our usual fast-food places, but from a restaurant. Yes!
I’m also thankful for safety this week as Jim traveled out-of-town, partly in the rain, and I was home during thunder storms. The power blinked a couple of times, but, thankfully, did not go out.
How was your week?

Our family enjoyed a wonderful week, too. Rowan and Eden were here several days. We painted, played with bubbles(of course), played tag, and looked for bugs in the grass. Lots of fun. Have a blessed weekend! 🙂
So glad your family had a nice Father’s Day celebration. I love your planters. I hope you have a good weekend.
Beautiful plants in that arrangement. And, don’t you love it when you don’t have to cook and get treated to a meal at the restaurant???
WOW I love your planter of pretty blooms!
YAY for getting food from a restaurant instead of having to cook. One of my fave blessings.
Thank you for the retirement congrats. It hasn’t fully hit me yet. It probably will in Sept hahaha
I’m so glad you had a nice Fathers Day. My husband insisted on paying for the entire gang (minus our youngest girl) to have BBQ out and even though I was gonna put it on my separate credit card, he insisted. Of course I “let” him 🙂
I hope you have a blessed weekend!
Your planters look lovely and sounds like Jim had a good Father’s Day even if he was cooking. Uninterrupted sleep is definitely a blessing. I nearly always wake up at least once in the night. Have a good weekend.
I really like the brilliant colors in your planters, especially that lime green. Your mentioning burgers makes me glad that’s what’s for dinner tonight, too. Glad you had a good time together to honor Jim. And sweet of him to offer to relieve you of cooking duties both on Father’s Day and that other evening.
That’s wonderful that you got a longer stretch of sleep than usual, even if difficult to replicate…
I totally understand your sleep schedule. Pain in my shoulder or neck can wake me up. I love when I can get 6 hours of sleep! Your flowers are so pretty! Happy Summer!
My week was half hot half rain. I think my husband was the only man in the whole world who NEVER did a BBQ ! He loved to eat, but not to prepare. So it was me when our son was little, then he became really addicted the opposite to his Dad and prepared BBQs each time he could ! I too wake up often during night I get up to the bathroom, and then try to fall asleep again, sometimes it worked sometimes not, I don’t know why !
Your planters look beautiful. I don’t always sleep through the night either. I usually fall asleep easily…it’s staying asleep that’s the tricky part.
I do love the purple petunias. Mine reside on the front porch and make me happy every time I look at them. Your pots are lovely with all the different colors.
I think guys just like to play with fire, so they love to bbq. Glad Jim had a good day celebrating.
Good sleep is a blessing. I never appreciated that until I got older. My grandma would comment that she was thankful she was a good sleeper; I never thought about what she said until I hit my 60s and then I remembered what she said.
Your planter is just gorgeous! I can relate too to the issue of waking up, then needing to go to the bathroom, rinse and repeat — ! Glad you got a good four hours, and if you learn the secret, please share 🙂
Your planters are beautiful and have such a nice variety of colors. Good sleep comes in stages for me. I’m in a good one right now, so need to pay attention to what I’m doing differently at night. Lack of screen time is a big one, and not snacking (which I love to do) helps, too.
Father’s Day sounds lovely and yes please to spice cheesecake. Yum! The planters are gorgeous. I love the coleus in there. Last year I told myself to get them again as they did so well and then promptly forgot. Glad you got over four hours of sleep before waking.
