Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

It’s been a busy week! I’m glad to sit down and recount some of the week’s blessings with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Labor Day is kind of an odd holiday in that it doesn’t have any traditions associated with it—except maybe grilling hamburgers, which we did. Labor Day seems like the summer’s last hurrah, though it will still feel like summer for a few weeks yet, past the official start of fall. But it was nice to have the day off and to have all the kids over (minus Mittu, who, sadly, wasn’t feeling well but still sent over a wonderful chocolate pie).

2. Puttering. On Saturday afternoon, I got finished with what I was working on about an hour before dinner time. There was nothing else that had to be done, so I enjoyed time just puttering around doing assorted little things. It was fun and relaxing.

3. Expandable bookcases. I had asked for and received for my birthday this expandable bookcase. Due to a mix-up my husband actually ended up getting two, but that turned out to be a good thing. They seemed a little flimsy when I first tried to set them up, but once they had books in them, they were fine. I used them to house my cookbooks a little better.

4. Bathroom scrubbing by my dear husband. He has some kind of attachment to his drill that he sometimes uses to scrub the bathtub much more thoroughly than I can with my little brush and cleanser. Then he swept and mopped as well.

5. Catching up with friends. Though funerals are not favorite occurrences, we enjoyed so much catching up with old friends at the graveside of a dear older man from a church we used to attend. Then Melanie and I had our almost-monthly lunch meet-up, this time courtesy of gift cards to Cracker Barrel.

That’s my week. How was yours?

  1. This week was a good one. Only complaint is that I have another sinus infection. That is a regular thing for me. Doctors call me the human barometer. I can always tell when the weather is going to change dramatically. šŸ™‚ Alan and I enjoyed lots of fun times with grandkids this past week. Have a blessed day! šŸ™‚

  2. What a great list of blessings, Barbara!!

Can I borrow your husband to do our bathroom?!! He’s a keeper!!

YAY for chocolate pie. I hope Mittu is back to feeling better.

    Enjoy the weekend.

  3. I guess it’s a busy time of year! Glad you’ve had good help in cleaning and sorting your books. That expandable thing looks most interesting as an alternative to bookends. With roomie’s piles of books jamming every shelf (and some not-shelves), we never need bookends!

Puttering is a favorite pastime for me, too šŸ™‚

It’s good to reconnect with friends and so nice that you did at the service for the gentleman at your previous church.

    • Our bookcases are pretty jammed full, too. The baker’s rack isn’t really made for books, I don’t think, but that’s where they need to be for our kitchen/dining space.

  4. What a good week! The shelves look nice and do keep the cookbooks together in a prettier and more secure way. And YAY for husband doing some cleaning that’s tricky to do well!

  5. Hi nice that you and Melanie got to meet up. I hope she is doing well. I miss her post on Blogger. That drill idea sounds great! I will ask my husband about that. Enjoy your weekend.

  6. Your books look so much better on the shelves in your “after” photo. Well I’m sure my hubby would do more cleaning etc if I asked him to but he’s hopeless for looking around and doing things on his own initiative. He certainly doesn’t have a drill with polishing attachments. Have a good weekend.

  7. Jenna invited us over for an impromptu cookout with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. It was fun! Your expandable bookcases look great. I like when Jeff cleans our bathtub because he digs in much more than I can. šŸ™‚

  8. Hi Barbara. I love those little expandable book holders. Your book shelves look great. That’s nice that your husband helped with cleaning the bathroom. It’s nice that you had some extra free time this week. I am glad that you got to meet up with and catch up with friends and family. Tell Melanie hello. Her blogging friends miss her. Have a nice weekend. See you again soon!

  9. I’ve never heard of expandable book shelves but they made your cookbooks look nicely displayed! Chocolate pie, yum! Hope Mittu is feeling better. Glad you were able to see and visit with some old church friends. Sometimes a funeral does draw us all together like that.

  10. A mix of busy and restful is a good week. It sounds like that is what you had.
I hope this week includes the same for you.
Even a funeral is a nice place to catch up with friends although Cracker Barrel might be easier for all the emotions.
(yes, I am super late commenting–what a weekend)
