Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

I can’t believe it’s the last Friday of October already. This month has flown, but that’s all the more reason to pause and recount the blessings of the week with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Healing. I mentioned my husband’s surgery last week–a double surgery when they found an undiagnosed hernia and repaired it along with the original issue. Healing always seems to be an up and down path rather than steadily increasing improvement. He’s still dealing with pain and fatigue and a few other issues, but he’s getting around really well.

2. A good report from the doctor. X-rays and a post-op exam at the doctor’s office this week showed everything was healing well. Plus the pathology report came back clear. Previous biopsies had been clear as well, but they only test a smattering of samples. It was good that the final post-surgical report came back all-clear as well.

3. Valet parking. When we went to the hospital for Jim’s doctor’s visit, we took advantage of the valet parking instead of me dropping him off at the door and then hiking back after finding a parking space. It was well worth the $3 fee.

4. Helpful gadgets. Before Jim’s surgery, he got his mom’s old walker out of storage and cleaned it up just in case he needed it. It was very helpful his first week home. Then we had kept her recliner that raises the seat up so one can get out of it easier. I don’t know what we would have done without that–probably he would have been in a lot more pain from trying to get up from a regular couch or chair.

5. Oven repair. I’d been having a time with my gas oven taking several attempts before it would come on. Then last week it came on but wouldn’t get up to the right temperature. Someone came out Thursday to replace the igniter, and we celebrated with frozen pizza cooked in a very hot oven.

That’s our week. I hope yours was good as well!

  1. Praise God that your husband has had good reports regarding his surgeries and is recovering well. Will continue to lift him up in prayer today.

It’s such a blessing to have gadgets that improve our quality of life!

YAY for the oven fix. It’s a blessing when our appliances get fixed in a timely manner. I too often take my modern items for granted!

I hope you enjoy a restful weekend.

  2. It sounds like a good week! I’m so glad Jim is healing well, and will pray for his pain to continue to lessen. What a blessing to still have things of his mom’s that ended up being helpful! I too find it hard to believe October has almost passed. My piano students are sorry to see that our “Indian summer” comes to an end with Halloween, which looks like it will be in the 30s.

  3. Barbara, I’m so sorry about your husband’s surgery. I just went back and read last week’s post. I’m so glad that everything is going well for him and that he received good care. Prayers for both of you as he continues healing.

  4. Glad to hear your Husband had good reports from the Doctor and that he’s recovering well. I’m sure the reclining chair was very helpful. Good to get the oven fixed! Have a good weekend.

  5. I am so thankful for how everything turned out for Jim’s surgery, Barbara. And what a blessing to still have his mom’s walker and lift chair…especially the chair! Glad you have your oven fixed now.

  6. So grateful to hear that your husband is on the mend. May there be steady progress in the week ahead, and rest for you both, body and soul. Sending up a quick prayer to our Healer even as we speak, Barbara.

  7. That is truly a blessing that Jim’s surgery and recovery have gone well and especially that the results are good too.
We have recliners and they do help with getting up and down–glad he has one to use.
Have a good weekend–hope you get to see some beautiful fall leaves.

  8. I’m so glad that Jim is continuing to recover from his surgery. With it being more extensive than expected, I’m guessing the pain has likely been more too. What a blessing that you still have some of the accoutrements around the house to ease his transition to moving about and getting out of chairs. I hope you’ve been able to get some rest yourself in the midst of caring for him.

  9. So glad to hear of the good reports on your husband’s recovery and healing. Though adding to the healing time, I’m glad the doctors caught that hernia and were able to deal with it right then and there rather than another surgery later. And pretty smart hanging onto those things from Jim’s mom! Glad they were a help when Jim needed them. I totally would have taken advantage of that valet parking for that price! I didn’t know hospitals even did that. Ours isn’t big enough for that I guess.

  10. Wonderful to hear how the walker and recliner were so useful to your husband’s recovery. Praying that healing will continue and return to regular activities along with it.

Our hospital charges a bit more for valet service, but totally worth my mom not having to navigate tight corners and disorientation once she gets out of her car.

Hurray for a working oven! That’s one appliance that’s easy to take for granted.
