Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

I love to turn the calendar to a new month’s page. In one sense, it’s just the next day after the last one. But there’s something about looking ahead to birthdays and holidays of the month as well as the unfilled days.

Fridays, though, we look back at the week that so quickly passed by to search for and acknowledge the good things before their memory slips away from us. Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts this weekly gathering. Feel free to join in!

1. A visit to the Ark Encounter in KY, which I described here. (My apologies to those of you who have seen this referenced three times this week. 🙂 Some who read my monthly recaps or Friday’s Fave Five only visit here for those posts.) The opportunity came through a friend of Jason and Mittu’s offering us free tickets, good through February.

2. Amazon gift cards. I was looking through gift cards I had received but had not put in my purse yet, and was surprised to find two Amazon gift cards I had forgotten about. It was like receiving a gift all over again.

3. Hand towels from Mittu’s mother. She visited them for a long weekend and gave me some hand towels that she had crocheted a strap for, as well as some trivets. These are nice to keep the towel from sliding off the rod.

4. An agreeable prescription. I mentioned last time that my bone density test had shown “a little thinning.” I was called in to talk to the doctor about it and was a little miffed that we couldn’t just discuss it over the phone. But he agreed that since the bone loss was so minimal at this point, I could just take calcium supplements and engage in weight-bearing exercises. He mentioned a few available medications, but I didn’t want to start those if I didn’t have to. One bonus about being there in person, though, was that I was able to ask him about the wounds that caused me so much trouble over the last several weeks. They had healed over but were still discolored. The doctor said they looked fine and the redness in some areas did not indicate infection.

5. Closing for Jesse’s house. We had a couple more hiccups in the process this week, but finally all the papers were signed. He’s excited to move in this weekend.

Bonus: Daffodils are blooming already!

That wraps up February!

  1. Happy Moving Weekend for Jesse! Just let the men folk do the work and you just provide snacks! The daffodils are lovely. I just love the yellow ones. So sweet of Mittu’s mother to give you the hand towels and trivets. I love the colors. It’s going to be a rainy day today. Hopefully, Jesse’s move won’t be affected!

    • It looks like the rain is supposed to stop before moving actually begins, thankfully. I probably won’t be carting boxes around, but will be wiping out cabinets or whatever needs to be done. Last time he moved, I unpacked the kitchen for him. I’ll see when I get there.

  2. Oh boy, moving weekend is exciting 🙂 I’m glad your in-person appointment ended up having value. I too always have that bit of excitement with a new month, especially as we head toward better weather rather than worse. How sweet of Mittu’s mom to crochet those for you!

  3. Congrats to your son on the house and getting to move in this weekend!

I’m glad you only need to take extra calcium. I do some weight bearing routines via the silver sneakers free you tube videos for my osteopenia.

I also do brisk walking almost every day outdoors. (I wish it helped with these daily headaches!!)

How thoughtful of your son’s MiL to gift you with the knitted items….pretty color!

I’d love to see the Ark!! I’ve heard it’s amazing ….some friends of ours who used to go to our church have been.

    HAPPY MARCH!!

  4. Congratulations on the house closing! That is so exciting.

I love knitting dish linens, especially dishcloths. The towels you received are so handy.

Years ago, there was talk of an Ark exhibit coming here, but it never did happen. I would love to see the one you went to.

I like your description of turning the page for a new month. It does feel like the start of something big, and I like anticipating special birthdays, too. Two of my grandchildren have March birthdays.

  5. I think the free tickets part is as good as your visit there, as far as faves go!

Hurray for rediscovered gift cards! It’s not hard to put Amazon cards to use….

I like the shade of pink on the knitted trivets. How lovely that she chose your favorite color.

Glad you could confer with your doctor. In some areas on certain plans, patients aren’t allowed to ask questions unrelated to the stated purpose of the appointment. They have to make another appointment. Crazy!

    • I was actually afraid the doctor might say I needed another appointment. I hoped not, since he had treated it before and I basically just needed a quick look to see if everything was ok or not. I hadn’t been scheduled for a follow-up appointment for the leg beyond what we’d already had. I would have understood if he had to do something with it and wanted to make another appointment for that. Thankfully, he agreed to look at it. It is crazy that some plans would have you make separate appointments with the same doctor for different problems.

  6. Congratulations to Jesse on closing on his house! That is a big step for him.

Good news on your dr visit. Your doc sounds like he actually listens to you. I hope the calcium and exercises to the trick for the bone density.

Daffodils!! Here they are just emerging from the cold soil. (I wrote about daffs too) Enjoy every bloom!

  7. No need for an apology, friend! I love hearing about the blessings the Lord gives you…regardless of when or where you share them.

How fun to find Amazon gift cards! That would be a bonus for me, for certain. It would mean more books! 🙂

I’m really glad to hear that your doctor didn’t feel it necessary for you to do more than just the calcium supplements and weight-bearing exercises. I was put on a prescription at one point and took it for a few years. When I changed doctors and she looked at my records she said that there was no need at all for me to be on anything other than the calcium supplement. AND I am also glad that the doctor was able to reassure you about the places on your leg being fine and that the redness in spots didn’t indicate infection. That had to relieve your mind.

    Great news about Jesse’s house!

Thank you for sharing the picture of the daffodils. We have a few Crocus blooming but no daffodils yet.

  8. I love your daffodils. I noticed today that we have some tulip bulbs coming up, but first we are having a late winter snowstorm here this weekend. Our mountains may get up to three feet of snow! So glad didn’t have to take any more medication and can just take calcium. It’s so great that Jesse was able to close on his house. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

  9. oh we loved our visit to the Ark a few years back. young and old, we were mesmerized, taught, encouraged. it was a wonderful extended family celebration with great meaning on all the levels that matter most.

  10. I would love to visit that ark museum! So fun. Congrats to Jesse! Hope he has a smooth moving day! Glad you were able to forego getting on meds just yet for the slight bone thinning. We’re still covered in snow with freezing temps but hoping soon we will see the signs of spring such as daffodils soon!
