Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

Here we are at another Friday and the end of another month. Time just keeps marching on, doesn’t it? That’s why it’s good to pause occasionally and reflect on the blessings of the week before they pass out of memory. I’m joining with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story. You have a standing invitation to join in!

1. Ladies’ Brunch at church. This is the first ladies’ function I’ve been able to attend at this church. I love brunch foods. They played a variation of speed friending. I enjoyed getting to know the ladies at my table as well as talking with people I hadn’t crossed paths with yet during the game. Through the game, I found a number of other readers, as well as some who liked the classics!

2. A good visit with a new doctor. I was sad that my former gastroenterologist retired last year. He had done some testing and ruled a few things out, but hadn’t really figured out yet what my issues were. I wasn’t looking forward to starting over with someone new. But I was impressed that the new (to me) doctor actually read my file before coming in to see me. It seems like, usually, no matter what’s on file or what you’ve written in the multitude of forms you have to fill out, the doctor still wants you to start from the beginning. But we were able to jump right in. She recommended a couple of things to try that were non-prescription (which I was thankful for), and I am supposed to check back with her in six months.

3. My husband has done most of the grocery shopping since he retired in December. I was feeling guilty about that, but he assured me he doesn’t mind. Then this week he took some things to the post office for me and ran some other errands.

4. Family text threads. We have a group text for our immediate family where we share everything from family news to funny memes to pictures of weird things we see out and about. Then my siblings and I have a group thread on Messenger.

5. Sunshine. We’d had cold, overcast, rainy days, so it felt good to see the sun again.

I wish you all a blessed Easter remembering God’s great love in giving His Son to die for our sins so we could be forgiven and have a relationship with Him.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
(2 Corinthians 5:21)

  1. That’s good news about your new doctor appointment. That’s impressive that she read your chart first. I’m glad you are comfortable with her.

As a rule, I don’t mind grocery shopping. It’s the lugging all the bags from the car to the kitchen and then putting everything away that I’m not fond of.

A think a family group text is a great idea! A great way to keep in touch with news.

I’ve enjoyed the sun this week and have taken a drink outside to just enjoy the warmth.

    Have a blessed Easter Sunday!

  2. That’s nice that your hubby does the shopping. Since I am an introvert that is one of my least favorite things to do.
I’m happy you are good with the new doctor.
I’m not good at meeting new people. Ugh…
Hope you have a blessed Easter weekend!

  3. I like the family text group idea! I need to start something like that; I don’t hear from my oldest much and it’s almost physically painful at times. So glad for the good new dr.! Especially as we get older that is more and more important. I’m with you on disliking starting over with a new one. Blessed Easter to the Harpers!

  4. Glad that your new doctor seems to be on top of it. My doctor that I loved moved away and it’s been tough with the new one. My hubby helps with grocery shopping too. Happy Easter to you, Barb!

  5. I like the idea of “speed friending” as a direct way to get to know one another and a spark conversations down the road.

Oh, sounds like you landed a great new doctor who pays attention and aims for the least invasive/medicated path.

That is a gift indeed for your husband to run some of your errands for you. Glad he is retired and no longer has that burden.

Isn’t it fun the ways we can use various tools to stay connected? Roomie’s family has several people whose name sounds like or includes my own and sometimes I accidentally get looped in ;-D

Such a good quote from Amy Carmichael. I need to revisit her books.

  6. My hubby does almost all the grocery shopping and the cooking. I consider that a true blessing and act of love (at least he really enjoys cooking more than I do). I’m glad your hubby does it too.

Good news about your new doctor, and making new friends at church.

Happy Easter to you and your family! He is risen!

  7. Having a doc who actually reads the file BEFORE coming in to the exam room is indeed a blessing. I need to see a new neurologist (the former one i’m firing! ) and I am praying she reads all the reports that were sent to her BEFORE we begin so I don’t have to start from the beginning of this 2 year saga. hahahah. I’m so glad your new doc is a good fit for you!

I too love the family group texts for keeping up with stuff…..my side of the family doesn’t do that because one of my sisters lives where there is no cell service but my husband’s side does a text thread for which I’m thankful.

Your husband is a dear!! I love that my husband has taken on the job of buying the suet and bird food for our feeders. If i left the grocery shopping up to him, he’d have to go late in the evening so since I”m the one who’s retired, I go in the early mornings. Plus, he’d buy junk food hahah 🙂

I love meeting new CHristian ladies….sounds like the luncheon was awesome.

I hope you have a blessed Easter Sunday!

  8. I like the idea of ‘speed friending,’ especially finding other booklovers:)

Family texts are so much fun. I was going through some old ones, just yesterday, and it brought back a lot of memories of past gatherings, as we use our threads to plan things.

I’ve had to start with two new doctors this year, and it’s been a good experience. Changes can be hard.

    Happy Easter to you!

  9. My ob/gyn retired a couple of years ago. He delivered my babies; we’ve been together a long time. It was sad seeing him go. I’m glad you had a good visit with your new doctor!

Jeff has also done the grocery shopping more than I have since he retired. Parts of me feel guilty about it too, but he doesn’t mind so I’m trying to just enjoy it. 🙂

  10. Hi Barbara! So glad you found a new doctor that you like. That is so important. I hope that you and yours have a wonderful, blessed Easter. He is risen!

  11. Glad the visit to the new doctor went well. We have lots of WhatsApp groups for various parts of the family – whole group, just our kids, Hubby’s siblings etc and sometimes groups for a specific event. It can get a bit confusing at times and one SIL often posts things on the wrong group which can be quite funny. I do the shopping in our house but then hubby cooks so it’s a fair trade. Have a lovely Easter weekend.
