Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

Just like that, we’re halfway through May already. It’s time to pause with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to look back over the blessings of the past week.

1. Mother’s Day. My family always makes me feel extra-special that day. Mittu made a Mother’s Day breakfast of quiche, potatoes, and muffins, and Jason brought it over the night before. It was so nice to just heat up Sunday morning breakfast, plus it was enough for Monday’s breakfast as well.

After church, Jim grilled burgers, hot dogs, and sausage. The kids contributed sides, and Jason made Chocolate Pretzel Pie.

I received flowers, thoughtful gifts, and sweet cards. We FaceTimed with Jeremy. It was a great day.

2. Unexpected funny moments. When I opened Jim’s card, the inside had a series of flaps with little messages. He signed what he thought was the last space, but it looked to me like that was another flap. I lifted it up, and the card started loudly belting out a song titled “Some Kind of Wonderful.” It surprised us all, even Jim—he hadn’t known it was a musical card. We all had a good laugh.

3. Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights, were visible over much of the US last weekend. We only saw a faint purplish-pink glow one night. But friends around town posted on Facebook photos where they saw a variety of colors and streaks. It was really neat to see something like that—I never thought I would.

4. Plants. Last Saturday, Jim and I shopped for plants for hanging baskets and planters. I was astonished at how expensive some of those things had gotten! But we did find some lower-priced options. It’s so nice to see the hanging baskets outside the windows and to have the planters cleaned up and looking nice.

5. A quiet week. We’ve had absolutely nothing extra this week since Sunday. I enjoy our church Bible study, critique group, family outings and such—but it’s nice and restful sometimes to have a free and quiet week.

And that wraps up another week. How was yours?

  1. I love those weeks when there’s nothing going on that I really need to attend! This past week was one of those for me too and I was so thankful.

The breakfast quiche looks wonderful! Mittu is such an amazing and generous lady! And Jason’s chocolate pretzel pie looks pretty good! My son makes a strawberry pretzel pie which is wonderful. The chocolate one must be amazing.

My son was able to get some extraordinary photos of the lights. They went to Melton Dam, not too far from him to get the photos.

I can imagine how funny that was with the musical card! Must have been startling.

Have a great weekend, my friend!

  2. What nice Mother’s Day food! I too saw the awesome Northern Lights photos and went out with high hopes, but didn’t see much if anything. Several people said they showed up better through a phone than with the eye, although my phone didn’t do much. I love quiet weeks! I’m hoping for one next week, with piano lessons finished 🙂

  3. Your Mother’s Day sounds like it was lovely. The card story made me laugh. I love the Northern Lights but missed out these ones due to smoke and cloud cover. Glad you found some affordable plants. I have yet to go but am dreading the price. Quiet weeks are a lovely blessing

  4. Sounds like a wonderful Mother’s Day! I missed the northern lights. I was exhausted and went to bed…

I too have shopped for hanging baskets. I just can’t get myself to spend that kind of money on them. They are beautiful though.

Quiet weeks are always nice when they roll around. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  5. I enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day, too. The grandkids had stayed with us for 4 days while our son and daughter-in-love went out of town. We gathered at their home on Mother’s Day and enjoyed delicious food, laughter, gifts, and fun. Have a blessed day! 🙂

  6. It’s nice that you had a restful week. Your Mother’s Day sounds lovely. Sounds like your family treated you extra special. All the food looks delicious. I would like to put some hanging baskets out, but like you, I found that they are very expensive this year. I may look for cheaper options too. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

  7. Sounds like you had a nice Mother’s day and the food looks delicious! We could not see the Northern lights here, but I have seen them while on a cruise in Alaska. I have had a couple of busy weeks. I will rest on Monday. Have a nice weekend!

  8. I love that your d-i-l made you breakfast…..sounds wonderful!

I didn’t get to see the northern lights when many NYers did last week but supposedly they might be visible again tonight and tomorrow night here in NY. Although I may be too far east and south for them. I’m going to set my alarm though and try to see them! 🙂

I like quiet weeks. I thought i was going to have one and it ended up not so. BUt the Lord was moving in many ways in my life and those close to me and that’s important. I’m looking forward to tonight when i have NOTHING on my agenda except to be in the Word and do some journaling.

    Have a blessed weekend

  9. Your Mother’s Day celebrations sound just perfect. Mittu is an amazing cook (and so is Jason).

I agree that quiet weeks are wonderful. I’m glad yours was like that.

So far this year, I haven’t made any hanging baskets. Plants are more costly this spring, so I have focused more on veggies.

    Have a quiet weekend! Willow

  10. What a terrific idea to have breakfast foods ready to go for the next day. That Mittu is amazing 🙂 I think you’d mentioned Jason’s chocolate pretzel pie — I can see myself picking at that bit by bit.

I heard that the northern lights were sometimes better seen through cameras than the naked eye, apparently, the pinker shades that we in the southern part of the country experienced.

Ah, yes, plant price shock. Those arrangements can be quite beautiful but also pretty pricey. Glad you found some that were more affordable.
