I’m pausing for a moment with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to look back at the good things of the week.
1. Freezer organization. We have a side-by-side freezer and refrigerator. I keep the frozen items I use most often in this freezer and save the bigger or lesser-used frozen foods for the chest freezer in the garage. The one in the kitchen was full of bagged things that probably save space, but slide around. Plus I couldn’t see what was in the very back and bottom. So on Saturday, I dragged the table over, put most of the freezer contents on it, and put like things together. I got rid of a couple of things. Jim unstuck the bottom drawer for me, and I pulled it out out to clean it. It felt good to get reacquainted with what was there and have things in better order.
2. Surprise sausage. One of the freezer items I hadn’t realized I had was a partial roll of ground sausage. I’m not sure what it was doing there—I don’t get it often, and I usually brown it all at once when I do have it. I thawed it out, browned it, used some for these crescent sausage rolls for dinner, some for a breakfast burrito the next day, and sprinkled some on a couple of pieces of leftover pizza. And I still have some left!
3. Trying something new. After church on Sunday, Timothy suggested going out to a restaurant. π We hadn’t done that in a while–often their care group or ours meets for Sunday lunch. But none of us had anything scheduled that day. Our first choice of restaurant was crowded, with a line extending out the door. So they suggested a nearby Mexican restaurant we hadn’t been to before. The menu didn’t have my usual Mexican food entree choices, but something called Cozumel Rice caught my eye–grilled shrimp with Mexican rice, topped with cheese sauce. It was so good.
4. A good visit. Mittu’s aunt and uncle from OK were traveling nearby in TN and stopped to spend a few hours at Jason and Mittu’s house. J&M invited us over as well. We enjoyed the time visiting with them–we hadn’t seen them since Jason and Mittu’s wedding.
5. Lindor Lindt Milk Chocolate Truffles, my favorite candy. Jim saw them on sale at the grocery store and brought back a couple of bags. I try to keep consummation of them under control by rationing one or occasionally two a day.
Bonus: We had much-needed soaking rain yesterday.
Any special blessings from your week?

For the time being my side by side freezer is still pretty bare. But I remember those days when I had to dig around to find things and sometimes found surprises.
That Mexican dish sounds great! But what isn’t great covered in cheese sauce?! LOL!
Glad J&M had a nice visit with family. Good times! π
Yes, I loved our rain the other evening!
Good for you rationing out the truffles! I haven’t acquired that virtue yet so I can’t have things like that in the house. LOL
I’m glad that Mittu was able to visit with her aunt and uncle as they passed through and you got to visit with them as well.
I periodically have to go through my freezer to sort out and rearrange (and sometimes throw out things I forgot about). I often buy bigger packages of chicken etc and then separate them into dinner portions and freeze them. I need to get one of those gizmos that vacuum seal food in baggies.
My son and daughter in law and I go out to eat after church about every other week. Sometimes it’s just Culvers but it’s nice to not have to eat when I get home.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the idea of clearing the freezer — I should do that. Thankfully, I’m at a point where my 2 are both about as empty as they’ll get, so it’s a good time too. I don’t buy ground sausage much either, but yes, so good! I love it in lasagna soup. All your food is making me hungry! I’m enjoying a fairly quiet week π
I enjoy chocolate, too. π Have a great day!
Ah, the vagaries of having deep shelves in a freezer… Glad you got to the bottom of it all and sorted it out!
What a fun new discovery at a local restaurant! Cheese and rice — what’s not to love?
How lovely to get a visit from family. Plus, rain, too! No rain here, unfortunately, but a bit more humidity than I like.
Hi Barbara! Sound like you had a nice week filled with deliciousness! I hope you weekend is also good. See you again soon!
I just reorganized my freezer section of the fridge too and cleaned out the entire fridge, wiping down shelves, etc. It felt so good and i discovered a pound of ground bison i didn’t know we had! I’ll use it for slow cooker pasta sauce this week.
How nice to meet up with your DiL’s aunt and uncle and spend some time with them plus a Sunday lunch out at a Mexican restaurant. I’m extremely picky about mexican food and I don’t eat shrimp but my husband would be all about that dish you ordered! There’s ONE place we love (in Saratoga Springs) but we don’t go there often and never in summer as we avoid the track traffic.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend enjoying that chocolate!
It sounds like had productive and fun week. I cleaned out my freezer too. Nice that you tried out a new place to eat too. We are thinking of trying out a new place this Sunday after church. That chocolate sounds good. We just got plane Hershey bars because our grandson loves smores. Happy Sonday!
I am glad you got your freezer cleaned out. Thanks for the reminder that I should do the same.
We used to go to lunch every Sunday with The Prof’s sister when we lived in CA and attended the same church. Now, once in a while we will have lunch with our daughter, but usually we just come home.
What a sweet gift your husband bought for you. Yum! Willow
I sorted my freezer out recently as we gained a few things from my son when he emptied his out. I did start trying to have a list of what was in there but found it too time consuming to keep it up to date. We only have 1 freezer though so it’s not too hard to keep track. Sounds like you had a good week with visits and eating out.
You’ve reminded me I desperately need to get to my fridge and freezer and do a good defrost and cleanout. I love going out for lunch after church, a real treat for us. And fun that you were able to try something new out of your usual at a Mexican restaurant. Glad you liked it.
