Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

September just arrived, and we’re almost halfway through it already! Pausing on Fridays to look back over the blessings of the week gives us an opportunity to stop and savor these fleeting moments for a bit longer. Susanne is our hostess at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Recovered text messages. I’ve mentioned several times here that we have a family text thread that I love. Sometimes we share memes, tidbits about our day, interesting things we come across, news, etc. Thursday, I tried to scroll back through the thread to look for some photos, but it would only go back to Sunday. I would have been so sad to lose that collection of texts. I Googled the problem, and it was very easy to recover the texts out of the “Recently Deleted” file. I’ve been getting some junk texts lately and must have accidentally deleted the wrong thing.

Not only was I grateful to find such an easy fix, but I was very pleased that I did it without having to ask my kids. 🙂 However, I have to admit I was halfway through tapping out a text to them to ask what to do when it occurred to me to look it up myself.

2. Craft show and lunch. Last Saturday we went to a nearby craft show with Jason, Mittu, and Timothy, and afterwards ate a late lunch at a Mexican food restaurant we discovered recently. This craft show has been pretty small the last few times we’ve gone, but seemed to have a lot more vendors this time. Plus it was all crafts! I hate to pay to get into a craft show and then see booths for leaf gutters and such.

3. Grandparent’s Day last Sunday. Jason and Mittu brought flowers and made dinner, and we had a nice visit.

4. The Tennessee Valley Fair. We’ve always gone to this in the evening, but decided to go in the daytime this year with Jason, Mittu, and Timothy. The rides and food trucks didn’t open until just before we left, so it was much quieter and less crowded. We saw lots of animals and entries for art and photography contests as well as a lot of 4H projects. And it happened to be Senior Citizen’s Day, so Jim and I got in for free. 🙂 Jim and I did get to split our once-a-year fair funnel cake.

5. Coolness. We’ve had some lovely cool temperatures in the mornings and evenings this week.

And that’s our week–a little busier than usual, but enjoyable! How was yours?

  1. I love craft shows! Every November where I lived in Florida, a whole street was taken up with vendors and crafts. It was always so good! I’m glad the one you went to was better than previous years.

I have yet to get to the fair! I do love funnel cakes! I always bought one at the American pavilion at Epcot in Disney. Splitting one is very wise.

I’m glad that Mittu is feeling better now and able to do things with the family. And so sweet of them to bring you a nice surprise for Grandparent’s Day!

  2. Cool mornings here too — love it! I totally relate to the story about almost automatically going to your kids with a tech question, but then thinking you should try it yourself first. I’ve had that happen a lot (I also have, many times, still asked them since I was unsuccessful!). Have a great weekend 🙂

  3. oh that funnel cake!!! We call it “fried dough” here in NYS. It’s a special treat for sure and one i haven’t had in a LONG LONG time. Now i’m craving it. hahah

I love cooler mornings and evenings. My fave temps are ones we’ve experienced here this week in eastern NY: 60s and 70s. Alhtough today is creeping up to 85!!

I’m glad you could figure out the text issue. When i have to ask my daughters something about my iphone or macbook they say ‘oh mom you’re such a baby boomer”. hahahah

    ENJOY the weekend!!

  4. I get texts like that from my mom, quickly followed by, “Oh, I just found it.” Glad you got your favorite text thread restored!

You had me smiling at a craft show with leaf gutters. I feel the same way about farmer’s markets with lotion. Nice bonus with your new favorite Mexican restaurant, too.

What a smart idea to arrive at the fair before the rides and food trucks to avoid crowds!

  5. Hi Barbara, I like to go to craft fairs too. They had a lot of them back in the 90’s. That funnel cake looks so good! Our weather finally cooled down for the next week. Glad you got your texts back!

  6. Sounds like a lovely week with lovely blessings. I had to chuckle at you not needing to call your kids to help you with the deleted texts. I would have been doing the same thing rather than looking it up. My son always knows when I have a computer problem or phone problem…he hears the panic in my voice. lol Good for you for not only looking up how to fix it, but for fixing it successfully. Glad you were able to get out with Jason, Mittu and Timothy for a couple of outings as well.

  7. Congratulations that you could fix your problem alone ! I also deleted some things and you gave me hope to recover them. I will try !

  8. Oh I just love country fairs! I’m not a fan of large crowds though so it’s nice when the smaller fairs happen.

  9. Good for you for figuring out the txt problem and fixing it on your own! I’m glad you were able to recover the pics. I have never had a funnel cake. I agree with you about craft shows that charge you to get in and then have a whole bunch of booths that aren’t crafts at all. How nice to have a Mexican lunch afterwards. Mexican is one of my faves!

  10. I love craft shows and I love fairs. So far this year, I have sadly missed them all. Travel dates interfered. Once a year funnel cake? Yes, we do the same! Only one a year!

I’m not sure I could figure out most of my tech issues. I’m impressed that you did it. Have a good week! Willow
