Friday’s Fave Five

October is chugging right along. I’m pausing a few moments with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to remember the good parts of the week.

1. Getting “extra” things done. You know how, when someone is coming over, all of a sudden you have a number of projects and “extra” housekeeping tasks you want to get done? A friend was due to stay with us overnight on her trip from OH to SC, but had to change plans due to Hurricane Helene. She did go later, but had to vary her route so much that she wasn’t passing close to us any more. I decided to go ahead with some of those extra activities anyway, which was helpful since we’re having some folks over for dinner this week.

2. Answered prayer. My son’s friend’s cancer surgery went well, and a friend’s family in FL was safe during Hurricane Milton.

3. Dinner and games. Timothy texted and asked if he and his mom and dad could bring dinner over one night. Of course! We often play Jackbox games through the Apple TV, but this time played Telestrations at the table since Tim is old enough to handle it now. That one always provides laughs and creativity.

4. Rearranging and sorting books. I have a small bookcase in our bedroom (in addition to two large ones in the family room and one in the guest bedroom). The small one has my massive pile of “to-be-read” books. I also put books there that I have finished but either haven’t found a place for yet or haven’t decided what to do with. It felt good to get those organized and dusted, find places for a few, and set aside a stack to give away.

5. Recorded Zoom training sessions. A couple of sites I follow had Zoom meetings about writing with special guests and a Q&A session afterward. I couldn’t attend either at the time, but, thankfully, the sponsors made the recordings available to watch later. I’ve worked my way through those a little at a time throughout the week.

How was your week?

  1. Sounds like a productive week….I just went through my closets and got rid of enough clothes and purses to fill 3 bags!!I’m donating them to a local church who collects items for people in poverty conditions where they have some missionaries. I’m excited to be able to help them.

I haven’t heard of Telestations. Am gonna have to look that up!

    HAPPY WEEKEND

  2. Hi Barbara, sounds like you got a lot done. I have to go through my bookcase too. Family game times is nice! One of my groups met on Zoom for a few years but we are meeting in person now. We are going out with our married group today and I am looking forward to that. Have a great weekend!

  3. Sounds like a nice, productive week (I like those)! I never clean up as well as when I think guests are coming šŸ™‚ A few years ago at Thanksgiving, we played some of those … games that come up on the TV? Not sure how that all works, but I’m guessing maybe that’s what Jackbox games are? They were fun! Good for you organizing and sorting. I think that feels good too!

  4. I love getting things done around the house like that…sort of like, “the pressure’s on.” I much prefer meeting in person but I do love when zoom meetings are recorded and allow you to revisit. It’s hard to remember everything. My least favorite part of zoom is seeing myself. I get so distracted and self-critical.

  5. I hope your friend can come visit sometime later. At least she got to where she needed to go this trip.

So glad to hear of your son’s friend’s surgery going well. An answer to prayer for sure.

I have my two big bookshelves and at this point, if I add more books, I’d have to get rid of others. Although there are some things displayed on them that I could remove. I like your idea of organization with your books. I have lots of books on my bookshelves that I need to read and then either keep or donate.

I’m glad you’ve been able to catch up on the Zoom writing conferences. Zoom is such a wonderful thing! I’ve done dulcimer workshops on that.

Have a great week, my friend. See you for lunch next week!

  6. I’m totally with you on #1 — it’s amazing what gets accomplished when there’s a need. Glad you got it done in case.

That’s good news for your son’s friend. God be praised.

Your dinner and games gatherings are such precious times. I’m glad Timothy enjoys them, too.

At first, I thought you meant how-to-use zoom training, something I surely could’ve used! It’s nice to have the recording for your future reference.

  7. Definitely a productive week for you but with some nice relaxing in there too. My TBR pile never seems to get smaller lol. Have a good week.

  8. Funny how getting company spurs us to get those things done we’ve put off. Good for you for doing it in spite of change of plans. Praise God the surgery went well. Oh the TBR piles. LOL. Mine are currently in my closet. I would love another book shelf but have no idea where to put it.
