The first Friday of a new month! I try to pause the swift passage of time on Friday’s to reflect on the blessings of the week with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.
1. A new calendar page. I’m not sure why, but turning the calendar to a new page each month is one of life’s little pleasures.
2. Kid’s Club costumes. The kids could dress up as a Bible character or animal this last Wednesday night. Timothy went as—Timothy! I thought the scroll was a great touch.
3. Annual family dress-up party. We started this during the Covid pandemic. Unfortunately, Jesse wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t come.
Mittu is dressed like Timothy. 🙂 Timothy is the Buc-ee’s Beaver. Jason and I are the skeleton crew. 🙂 It’s funny, mine came with a “sewing kit” to stitch up the neck opening and reuse as a tablecloth after using as a costume—if I ever have need of a skeleton tablecloth. 😀
I thought Jim’s costume was the best this year. I asked if he was a mad scientist. He said no, he was a scientist involved in a lab explosion. 🙂
4. Pumpkin decorating. We usually do this earlier in the month but just didn’t get to it until last night.
I especially liked Mittu’s:
5. Homemade caramel corn and apple cider are our usual snack foods while pumpkin decorating. Even though it takes a while to make the caramel corn, the end result is worth it. Jim says it’s “better than Cracker Jacks.”
Did you have a good last week of October?

Jim’s costume is amazing! Very clever. I like the “skeleton crew” too.
Quite a family celebration with the pumpkins and the snacks. Looks like a lot of fun.
Timothy made a perfect “Timothy”!
What a fun week ! I think my favorite costume is Jim’s as well. And I loved his explanation of who he is. 🙂
I have to say that I agree with Jim’s assessment of caramel corn. I will be making some before long for Carroll to take with him when he goes hunting.
What a fun week! 🙂 I love how your family celebrates together!
I had a difficult week but had many blessings despite it.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pumpkin carvings. You all are very artistic!! And Mitu’s is one I would go with if we did this activity 🙂
Your costumes are wonderful! Next year you could use your tablecloth and put Halloween/harvest treats on it 🙂 what a fun idea to turn a costume into something practical.
ENJOY the weekend
I’m always impressed by people who do fancy carved pumpkins — that is not a skill of mine AT ALL! Yours all look great! Jim looks rough, in a good way 🙂 And I’m cracking up imagining using a skeleton tablecloth??! Happy November!
I wonder if my mom feels the same way about her calendars as you do. She does, however, use about 5 of them around the house 😉
What a fun costume! The satchel and scroll was perfect. I like the ease of your costume. A gal at our last plantshare had a cape in the shape of monarch butterfly wings. She just had to wear a dark outfit to complete it. So simple. Your husband’s “mad scientist” hair is hilarious!
Looks like you all had a fun time, and I enjoyed the pumpkin carving.
Timothy was a good choice. I just thought all the costumes were so creative! Have a restful weekend!
Looks like you all had fun and Jim’s costume is definitely the best! Have a good weekend.
I agree. I vote Jim’s costume the best one. And Timothy’s Kids Club costume is a close second. And your pumpkin carvings are always fun to see (we don’t even have one pumpkin here).
Homemade caramel corn and apple cider? I’ll be right over!
Have a good weekend! Willow
Barbara, I’m with you, I love turning the page on a fresh month each and every time. I’m all about a paper calendar, even though I kind of keep it going on my phone. Happy November to you and your beautiful family!
That sounds very funny ! the costumes are great and the pumpkins too ! At least I see a little bit on the blogs, because I couldn’t go out with my bronchitis. And I wanted to appear as a witch !!
Jim’s costume is awesome! As is Timothy’s. I love all the traditions you’re family has!
