We’re one week into November, and I’m pausing with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to cultivate gratefulness and share God’s blessings.
1. Pretty flowers. Jason and Mittu brought these over last week. I love the dark pink ruffled edges and the way they opened up so prettily.
2. A fundraiser dinner. Our church supports a missionary from REAP India, and last Saturday night we attended a fundraiser dinner for the organization. We enjoyed learning more about the ministry. We hadn’t known that there was a long history with that organization and its founders and the former pastor of our church (now with the Lord–we had never met him). A lot of folks from church were there, too.
3. Libby is an app that allows you to borrow e-books from your local library. I had tried to use it a few times before, but could never get it to find my library, even though my library’s website says it’s connected. I tried it again this week and saw that somehow they had me in Fayetteville rather than Knoxville. I deleted and reinstalled the app and was able to get connected this time.
4. Biannual closet change-over. I like my spring and summer clothes better than my fall and winter ones. But it’s nice to have the warm and cozy clothes where I can get to them easily. And since my off-season clothes are in the guest room closet, I don’t have to dig them out of storage–just make a few trips back and forth down the hall between bedrooms.
5. Oven meals. There are some meals that I don’t make during the summer, because keeping the oven on for an hour makes it hard for the air conditioner to keep up. It’s been fun to resurrect some of the dishes we haven’t had since last winter. Plus, it’s nice to get dinner ready and then still have an hour to do other things.
Updated to add: How could I have forgotten the biggest event of the week? I am thankful for the election and the fact that, for the most part, it was peaceful and decisive, two things I was praying about in particular. I’m thankful we have an opportunity to choose our leaders.
And that wraps up another week! How was yours?

I’ve been switching over my closets as well….i realized I have WAY more warmer weather clothing than cold but some of the warm weather clothing i didn’t wear in the last year so I donated those items to a church who gives them to the homeless/needy families. I may do the same thing when Spring arrives with the winter clothes…..i figure if i haven’t used, needed, or worn something in the last year, I’m going to donate. Am trying to get more minimalist in my home. hahah
Those flowers are gorgeous!! Did Mittu grow them?
I can’t do ebooks now that i no longer have an Ipad. my eyes become too strained but i will tell my oldest daughter about that LIbby app. She sometimes uses e books. We’re both huge fans of our town library and we love hard cover books.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend.
I’ve grown to like e-reader books, for reasons mentioned here: https://barbaraleeharper.com/2023/05/25/advantages-of-the-kindle-app/ I like that I can adjust the text to the size I can read best. But the main thing I use the Libby app for is when I am listening to an audiobook but want to read over a passage or see the author’s notes. I don’t want to buy the book in paper or electronic format since I already have the audio version, so being able to check out the ebook without making a trip to the library is nice.
Oh, and, no, Mittu didn’t grow the flowers. π They came from the grocery store.
I’m still feeling elated over the election! The flowers are beautiful; love the various shades they have. I use Libby quite a bit and like it.
Those flowers are lovely. Are they home grown? We have Libby here too but I tend to opt for physical books whenever I can. Have a good weekend.
The flowers came from the grocery store. Our local market has a good selection. I’ve grown to lobe ebooks over the years for many reasons–being able to adjust the text size, saving space, finding good deals on them, being able to highlight and save notes, or highlight a word to get the definition.
I enjoy oven meals, too….and soups. I do tend to make soup all throughout the year, but definitely more often in the winter months.
Those roses are absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing the picture of them. That brightened my day.
I still haven’t done the complete switch over of our clothes yet. But I know that time is coming soon.
Some florist roses never really open at all, so it’s nice how prettily yours did. Almost peony-like π
I love learning about long faithfulness in ministry. Glad your church supports and works to keep members informed and connected.
Yay for connectedness with Libby! My mom just got connected, too. She had a librarian help her and it was much easier.
Sounds like you are quickly easing into warm and cozy season. As you might guess, we only have slightly cool, warm, and hot so not a lot of “Winter” clothes. Nice you have an easy way to transition.
Yes, a decisive result such an answer to prayer.
I am glad that the election is over. I was amazed at how many people voted this year compared to other years.
What lovely flowers from Mittu!
I don’t always read e-books but sometimes they are convenient. I’m glad you were able to get onto your city library for it. More books to read!
Have a good weekend. Willow
I live in New England and since the cold season is longer than the warm one I have more fall/winter clothing. I like my summer clothes better though. It’s so easy to put a dress on when you don’t have to worry about being cold. Those flowers are so pretty!
Such beautiful flowers that Jason and Mittu found! I hope you enjoy Libby. It’s the app I use for audiobooks with my library too. It’s been wonderful. This year I connected also with the Nashville Public Library system; I’ve found they have SO many more Kindle and audiobooks available to me than my Huntsville library. I rarely buy books. π
I use Libby all the time and I really like it. The only con is that so many of the books I want are on long holds. I’ve got three on hold right now.
The flowers are such a pretty, delicate pink. Very pretty.
I did my changeover from summer/spring to fall/winter the other week. Our temps vary so much but I’m glad it’s done and I make due when it gets a bit warm during the day.
The REAP India sounds like a very worthwhile organization. I’m glad you were able to learn more about them.
Those roses are so pretty. I have some in my garden that are similar. They are called Double Delight. I am in the process of changing out clothes too. I just packed all my sleeveless shirts and a few dresses. I plan to make a soup next week with hubby’s help since I can use my left thumb. I am praying for peace too!
I use Libby for audiobooks on my phone so I can listen in the car. I don’t do e-books, have never had the desire. I like a good old fashioned book in my hands. I already changed out my clothes. It’s a good time to get rid of stuff I no longer fit or want. Those flowers are stunning!
