January is one month that I am glad to see speeding by. This has been a frigid week: you know it’s been cold when 30 degrees seems like warming up. Today, I’m looking for blessings with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.
1. Light! This is the first week it was still light outside when we left for Bible study! I know we get more daylight each day after the winter solstice, but this is the first I’ve seen actual evidence of it. On top of that, the sunset was gorgeous that day, and we got to view it on our drive.
2. An impromptu visit with the kids. Jason, Mittu, and Timothy popped in for a while one afternoon this week. Timothy made some brownies from a recipe in the Minecraft cookbook he had received for Christmas, and he wanted to share some with us.
3. A field trip and dinner out. I don’t know why I think an excursion to Home Depot is a field trip, but I do. π Jim and I had gone together to look at several things for the house. We got done right at dinner time, and he suggested we go out to the same Mexican food restaurant we had taken the kids to over the holidays. We hadn’t eaten out in a while–we usually get take-out to bring home. And though the restaurant was a bit noisy, it was enjoyable.
4. Nights off from the kitchen. When Jim was painting in the kitchen/dining area, he suggested getting takeout since everything was in disarray. He went out and got Panda Express for us. The next night we ate leftovers from that meal. Then we had the dinner outing mentioned above.
5. Another area painted. This week, Jim worked on painting another bathroom and hallway. This hallway has six doors–one to the bathroom, one to the garage, and four closet doors. We’re blessed with a lot of storage space in this house, but the doors do take longer to paint than the walls.
How was your week?

I’ve not eaten at Panda Express but it must be good! I see the painting is coming along. What a big job. But it will be so nice when it’s finished.
How were Timothy’s brownies? So sweet of him to make them.
It sure has been cold! I’m looking forward to warmth and later sunset in the upcoming months. Then, I’ll be complaining about the heat! LOL
Panda Express is to Asian food what Taco Bell is to Mexican food. π
Re heat and cold–that’s one reason I like fall and spring better than summer or winter, when we don’t have the extremes in temperature.
I don’t want to wish my life away, but I’m with you at being happy to bid January farewell. We too have had such cold temps, it’s a challenge to even go out to hang the birdfeeders or get the mail π¦ Thankfully things look like they’re improving (temperature-wise) this weekend. I too noticed last night that I drove to Bible study in the light!!! Yay!!! Here’s to a good final week of January for you.
A fresh coat of paint makes everything feel so fresh and new! I’ve noticed the light coming earlier as well. Yay!!
I’m glad to see the sunlight staying longer each day. I’ll be happy when this snow and ice leave the Lowcountry. haha! We only get snow and ice about every 7-8 years, so it was time. π Have a blessed day!
I love our trips to Home Depot. When the kids were still living with us, it felt like a real date! We always said that if they put in a bar there, we’d have it made.
Those impromptu family visits are so nice. And Timothy’s brownies must have been a real treat. Love a guy that likes to cook!
So sweet of Timothy to want to share his brownies with his grandparents.
I had to chuckle at your comment about going to Home Depot as a field trip. When we go to Menard’s it’s kinda the same feeling. lol
Stay warm! Last night was the first night this week that we didn’t have subzero temps. And it’s snowed all day today.
Oh my goodness! 30F as “warming up”??
I smiled at your field trip. Sometimes when you’re home a lot, any outing is An Outing π Glad you slipped in dinner at a good restaurant, too. Ha! You and Willow both had Panda Express this week.
Jim is such good guy. I’m glad you’re counting the ways.
We were in the teens and below much of this week, with a low of ten degrees. Brr! Thirty felt almost nice by comparison.
It’s funny that Willow and I both had Panda Express.
We have a panda express here in town that never passes the monthly health inspections from the state so i never go. haha Plus we like the food from an authentic chinese place that really knows us since we order often from them.
Love that you had take out and went out so didn’t have to cook! a true blessing.
How fun for Timothy to bring you some brownies he made….yummy!!
It must feel so good to get the new paint on the doors/walls.
Happy weekend! stay warm!
Definitely a good idea to get take out or eat out when you’re decorating and the house is in chaos. How nice that Timothy wanted to share his cookies with you. Enjoy the weekend.
Whenever we eat in a restaurant, we will have leftovers for another meal. We call them ‘planned-overs’.
Isn’t it fun to live so near family so they can pop over and share brownies or whatever with you? It is always one of my huge blessings every week.
I hope your temperatures go up. We are above 32F a bit each day right now. Balmy weather. π
