It’s been a busy, up-and-down kind of week. It’s easy to get stuck in doldrums over the “down” parts, so it helps to remind ourselves of the good parts–which we do every Friday with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.
1. Ladies’ Luncheon at church. We had a couple of sessions before and after with the theme of telling our stories of God’s work in our lives.
2. A mistake is often not good, but this time it was. We got a weird email, supposedly from our insurance company. But we brushed it off as a scam attempt. The next day we got an email from them thanking us for our conversation that day, with an attachment of an insurance policy. We began to be concerned about identity theft. After some research and phone calls, we discovered the agent had used the wrong email.
3. Valet parking and finding our way. I had an appointment at UT Medical Center this week, which is a huge, confusing complex. Jim offered to drive me and drop me off at the right building while he parked. But we discovered they had valet parking for only $2 more than the parking garage charge would be. Then we had to go in one building to get to another building and felt a bit like rats in a maze, but we found our way in and out without any problems. I’m quite directionally challenged, so I appreciated that Jim drove and then went with me to find the right place.
4. Spring flowers. Jim was looking around the garden section of Home Depot and found some plants marked down. He decided to get several for the planters around the house, thinking that if I didn’t like any of them, he could plant them somewhere else. But I liked them all!
5. Real ID appointment set up. I was concerned that I might not get an appointment before my driver’s license expired–the web site said most appointments are made 90 days out. But, thankfully, I was able to set it in time. I dug up all the appropriate paperwork, so all I have to do with it now is wait for the appointment.
How was your week?

That was great that your valet parking wasn’t much above the garage cost and that Jim could help you navigate the buildings. Sometimes those large medical complexes are complex!! 🙂
YAY for new plants to watch grow and for a quick solution to the email snafu.
When Real ID became a thing, we rushed right over to DMV to get ours. In fact, I remember not even needing an appointment! I just walked into the DMV after work one day and got right in. We all have them and of course all 4 of us have our passports too. We typically bring our passports with us when we travel.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, Barbara. I’m guessing your family will treat you well.
We didn’t do anything about the Real ID at first because we’re not traveling much these days. We just figured we’d take care of it when our licenses needed to be renewed. But May 7 was the deadline where you have to have it to fly, so there was a big influx of people trying to take care of it before then. The web site said an appointment wasn’t required but was recommended so we didn’t have to wait overlong. I imagine now that the deadline has passed, the DMV will probably not be as busy.
Happy Mother’s Day to you, too! I hope you have a wonderful time with your family.
My oldest sister passed into Heaven after a short, but horrible journey with pancreatic cancer. We’ve been in Virginia for the funeral. Home now and we’re exhausted. I’m missing my sister. But, I know she is with God.
I’m so sorry, Melissa. Praying for God’s comfort for you.
Oh my! That communication with the insurance company could be very worrying. So glad you got it all straightened out.
UT Medical Center is quite the place. I didn’t know about valet parking. When I go in June, I’ll keep that in mind. I bring my daughter in law with me whenever I go there.
Great deal on the flowers. It’s so nice to see things blooming all over now.
My Real ID appointment is just 3 days before yours. I’ll be glad to get it done.
Have a great week.
You had a busy week! Glad most of that is behind you! It’s amazing how huge medical complexes can be. I am getting a bone scan in a few weeks and called to ask where in the building it was — can be helpful in knowing where to park, etc. I keep hearing about Real ID, I think I have it, but right after posting this I’m going to check my license to be sure. Thank you for the reminder!
The whole getting to a confusing place on time is so stressful! Glad you had some help navigating, got your Real ID stuff done, and didn’t have an identity theft rat’s nest to undo.
I like the sound of that luncheon. Hope it was as enjoyable, as well as your new spring flowers.
One advantage of moving to another state is that the real ID gets done ahead of deadlines.
Happy Mother’s Day to you and Mittu!
I’m glad you got to your appointment at the medical centre ok. Always good to have someone with you. Being in the UK I have no idea what the Real ID is but I’m sure it’s keeping my son busy – he works for the DMV. Hope you had a good Mother’s Day.
I did have a lovely Mother’s Day, thank you! The Real ID is like a driver’s license, but with more documentation about who you are. It supposedly adds another layer of security. People can still get just a plain driver’s license, but can’t fly without a Real ID. I don’t know that we’ll be flying anywhere, but it’s good to have just in case. It’s also needed to go into some federal buildings, but I am not sure which ones.
Oh, I’m so glad you got that Real ID appointment in time — those things always sneak up on me too 😅. And I smiled at the “rats in a maze” comment — that’s exactly how I feel in hospital buildings!
It’s beautiful how even in a bumpy week, little bits of care and grace keep showing up. My week? I just wrote a little post about it and backdated it on my blog

Glad Jim was with you to help navigate the hospital. I remember taking my Dad to the hospital in the big city and it is daunting when you don’t know what you’re doing. Wow, really happy that it was not identity theft and the root of it all was found and fixed fairly easily! How nice of Jim to grab some of those flowers for the planters and that you ended up liking them. Next weekend is our big plant out day.
