Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

This week was a little busier than the last, but with good things! Thankfully I had some time to rest the last couple of days. I’m sharing some of the highlights with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Vacation Bible School. We went to the closing program Friday and enjoyed hearing the kids sing enthusiastically. We have a great leader and crew who organize VBS each year.

2. Ancient Lore Village. This is a place we’ve wanted to explore for a long time, but most of their events are pricey. However, they had a free event this last weekend, so we went. The site is sort of a fairy-tale-styled village. The individual units can be rented. It would be fun to have a family reunion there! For the free event, they had vendors all over the grounds. I would have liked to see inside one of the houses, but I think they were all occupied–they were locked, at any rate.

I was glad we finally got a chance to visit this place.

3. Potluck lunch and card discussion with Melanie. Instead of going out to one of our favorite restaurants for lunch, we went potluck style to eat at my house. Then, Melanie wanted some ideas for making cards. So we had a good time pulling out papers and trims and tools.

4. Learning new tricks. I feel quite gratified when I can figure something out, especially something technological, without having to ask my kids. šŸ™‚ In the photos above, I was looking for a way to blur the faces of strangers in the photos. Instead, I found a way to remove them completely.

5. Another impromptu visit. Jason and Mittu’s internet went out during a storm, and he had some work he needed to do online. They asked if they could come over for a couple of hours here so he could have internet access. While he worked in the family room, Mittu, Timothy, and I sat at the dining room table and colored while Jim sat at the counter and talked with us. Timothy did his own drawing, and Mittu and I used coloring books.

That’s our week. How was yours?

  1. I enjoy the adult coloring books when it’s a rainy day and I’ve nothing to do. I find it relaxing! glad you had that time with your DiL and grandson.

That ancient lore village is adorable!! My daughters would LOVE to see that. what a fun spot and if i ever get to the Smoky Mts which has been on my bucket list since my teens, I’ll tell my husband we might want to check out lodging there! How fun and quaint. Reminds me of the Hobbit village.

It’s always nice to have lunch and time with a friend.

    happy weekend!

    • I was poking around the Ancient Lore Village web site yesterday, looking at their pictures of inside the units. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive to stay in. But it might be worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime splurge.

      • Yes, I checked out one of the lodges and WOW….for Sept it was over $700 a NIGHT! there’s no way my husband would go for that. We’re paying that for ONE WEEK in maine for a condo right on the ocean!! hahah But that sure looks like a very luxury place. Glad you could do the free event!!

  2. I sure miss VBS! As a child and adult! So much fun. Its awesome that you and Melanie can get together.
The village that you visited looks super cool! Like a Hobit village or something. Would be neat to stay there.
I hope you have a great weekend!

  3. So now I want to go to Lore Village! It looks like a place I could spend quite a bit of time at. I’d love to explore each of the houses. They are each so charming on the outside.

Good for you when it comes to figuring out something techy without having to ask your kids. Maybe I could send you my phone and you could take care of that for me. It’s driving me NUTS! šŸ™‚

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. xx

  4. I love the photos of your visit to the village. Like visiting Hobbiton!

What fun to color together. I’m still doing the online coloring apps. I may need a support group soon!

I did enjoy our Tuesday together. I already have several supplies on my Amazon wish list!

  5. Sitting and coloring with my mother-in-law is so relaxing! It’s something I normally wouldn’t take the time to do at home, but when I’m “forced” into a slower afternoon, I find it really enjoying. I love the Ancient Lore Village!!! Seriously, I must go. So neat! It’s giving me Hobbit vibes, although I’ve never read that book šŸ™‚

  6. That village certainly looks an interesting place to visit but expensive. Sounds like you had a nice week of visits at home too. Enjoy the weekend.

  7. VBS was always a highlight of our summer. My kids went to the one right down the block from us, and I was full of nostalgia as I watched all of the activities last week.

The village is so darling! How fun it would be to take a family there!

As nice as it is to go out for meals, there’s something about sharing one’s home that makes a meal special. It sounds like you and Melanie had a great day!

  8. Wait, you’re not going to share what app you used to remove people? I tried with a variety of free online sources, some of which were “AI powered” — all failed pretty miserably! Wound up with the usual clone/stamp tool of an app.

The village units look very well built since they’re actually occupy-able and not just fronts. Very cool and very pricy!

Love the sound of that quiet couple of hours where you were together and each working quietly.

  9. What a fun way to spend some time with Timothy and Mittu– coloring!

That Ancient Lore Village looks like such a fun place– it reminds me of Lord of the Rings.

Glad you had fun with Melanie this week. Willow
