Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

Well, I am still experiencing the atrial flutter I mentioned last week, with my heart rate bouncing from 110 to 123 beats per minute. We tried increasing the medicine I am already on, to no avail. I called the doctor’s office at the requested time, and they advised skipping the step of going off the current medicine and trying a new one. Instead, they thought I should go ahead and do the cardioversion. Their scheduler was supposed to get back with me. She didn’t. I called earlier this week and was told all the cardioversion slots in their schedule were filled. :/ I asked through the patient portal if I could go ahead and get on the schedule for next week, and received no response. So I guess we just wait.

I’m frustrated. But this is not as urgent a situation as many others the doctor’s office deals with. I feel okay and can function pretty well–I just feel like I am not operating at full capacity and need to rest after exertion. I’m praying that God will direct to the right time or even help my heart to go back to normal without the procedure.

Meanwhile, I’m sharing some of the blessings of the week with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Jason’s birthday was last week, but we celebrated on Sunday. It’s always a joy to celebrate my children. But it was a special blessing this time because, in an effort to keep life low-stress while my heart is acting up, we’ve pretty much stayed home. It almost felt to me like Covid isolation. So I especially appreciated the gathering. Jesse came over as well and we FaceTimed with Jeremy.

2. Wildflower bouquets. Mittu cut and arranged these from our wildflower patch. Then she cut some sunflowers to take home. It was good she did, because we had a strong storm the next day which did a number on the flowers outside.

3. Electricity. The power went out briefly during the storm, right as I was making dinner. We have a gas stove and oven, so the burners stayed on. But it would be hard to be without air conditioning this time of year. I was glad the power came back on soon.

4. Easy meals. Jim got several frozen heat-and-eat meals to make dinner prep easy this week. It’s not good to eat that way all the time, but I’m glad such options are available when needed.

5. Finishing a long book. Books are a favorite every day! I’ve been reading the third volume of the Collected Letters of C. S. Lewis for months now, and finally finished it this week. I enjoyed it a lot, but I am read to move on.

How was your week?

  1. Oh Barbara, I’m so sorry you’re going through this regarding your heart. I will be lifting you up in prayer again this weekend.

Happy Birthday to your son! that’s a beautiful picture of him and his wife.

I love wildflowers although I don’t tend to cut them……i do like to cut some black eyed susans and put them in a jar on my deck table. I just may do that later before the rain arrives. I’m hoping we get a good rainstorm (our grass is needing it) that will break the high humidity again.

That series of books sounds good…we love CSLewis here in our home….but I know what you mean about being ready to move on. I’m on book 12 of a series I like (secular fiction) (I have read other books inbetween the 12) but i think i’m ready for a break from the series so I don’t plan on taking the 13th until next year. There’s so many good books to read!!

Happy weekend and I will pray for you.

  2. prayers continue about the appointment for the procedure you need, my friend.

The wildflowers are so pretty..and a belated happy birthday to your son.

I’m really glad that you didn’t have to deal with meal prep during all of this with the atrial flutter.

    Praying you hear something soon.

  3. Dear Barbara, praying for you even as we speak, that God would give you peace in the middle of the waiting, that an opening would quickly open up so you can get in for treatment, and that He would bring a healing touch in whatever way He sees fit.

May your weekend be restful and sweet.

  4. Continuing to pray for you! I hope your cardioversion can happen earlier in the week, and that it will be very successful and that your energy will be restored. Your flowers are lovely — I love the cosmos especially, since I gathered seeds of mine in England. Nice too the Mittu gathered them just before a storm came through. I hear you on being glad power was restored quickly! Our internet was down for 14 hours one day this week and it reminded me how dependent I’ve become on that.

  5. I’m so sorry about the delays in your hope to get the cardioversion done. Have been praying for you through this time.

Lovely bouquet to accompany your lovely dinner with the kids.

Ugh. Cannot imagine the heat and humidity without AC! Glad the gap wasn’t too long. Yes, I feel the same about those heat/eat meals — so thankful for these in a pinch.

Hope you’ll do a review on the book. Wonder if it would make a good audiobook.

  6. Hi Barbara,

I’m sorry to hear that you are still in this atrial flutter. I was praying it would all be fixed by now. So frustrating about the doctor’s office. On Monday, please call them every hour until you are on the schedule! Don’t wait for a portal response. Orders from your new friend! Ha!

  7. Your flower bouquet is just so sweet. How nice that you got a chance to celebrate with your family. I love when we just stay home to do things. It’s nice to be able to spend time with my grown children that way. It seems more relaxed. I will keep your health in my prayers.

  8. Such a beautiful flower arrangement. Cosmos? I’ve never seen them in such an assortment of colors!

I’m sorry to hear about the A-fib. I’ve not experienced it, but it seems that it would be very tiring. I hope you get your appointment very soon.

  9. Happy Birthday to your son! I love how your family is caring and careful with you.

I do hope you are able to get in to see the cardio dr SOON.

Your wildflowers are beautiful. I love cosmos!

  10. There is something so simple and beautiful in a wild flower bouquet. I’m glad you were able to enjoy them before the storm.

Praying your procedure is scheduled soon. I know this is hard for you.

    Happy Birthday to Jason!

  11. Oh, I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing that heart trouble and the frustration of not getting through to get something booked. I pray your week was better than when this post went up and that it either got resolved by God’s hand or that you were able to get something scheduled with the clinic. So glad you were able to celebrate a birthday with the family.

Such a pretty little bouquet. We had an intense thunderstorm this week too with a crazy heavy downpour but thankfully the flowers survived.
