Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

Another week has zoomed by, and I’m pausing to remember the week’s blessings with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story.

1. New flowers. For some reason, most of the flowers in our hanging baskets died. We looked at one store last week to see if they had either hanging baskets or perennials to plant in them marked down–we didn’t want to pay full price when they’ll only last until the first freeze. The first store (Home Depot) didn’t have much of a selection, and only one kind was marked down. But Lowe’s had some nice hanging baskets marked down to about $6.50. It’s nice to see flowers from my back windows again.

2. Labor Day is primarily an excuse to grill burgers. πŸ™‚ The kids came over for dinner and games.

3. A curved shower rod. I know it’s odd, but I don’t like the shower curtain liner to touch me, even if it has just been cleaned. Somehow, the air currents in the bathroom blow the liner in. Jim recently installed a curved shower rod (a birthday gift from Jason and Mittu–thanks!), and I love it.

4. A long-awaited lunch. Melanie and I usually get together every four to six weeks, but due to health issues for both of us and then my oldest son’s visit, it’s been about three months since we saw each other. We remedied that by going out to Cracker Barrel this week. None of the rumored changes have taken place at our location so far. It was so nice to catch up in person and enjoy good food. And a bonus: their rewards program gave me a free dessert for my birthday! Since it’s a few weeks past my birthday, I wasn’t sure if the offer was still good, but it was.

5. Another round of put-off phone calls has been completed.

Happy Friday!

  1. I’ve often wondered about the curved shower curtain rod. I’m glad it’s working well for you.

Glad you and Melanie were able to have lunch and get caught up face to face this week. That face-to-face meeting just can’t be beat!

It sounds as if you had a wonderful week…and I am so glad.

  2. our curtain doesn’t blow in BUT i would LOVE the rounded rod. Dave says why get one when our straight one works just fine. sigh. He’s frugal. I’m glad you got one! I”m envious πŸ™‚

For us Labor Day used to mean camping and burgers, etc etc but the last few years dave has made his famous rice and beans!!

I love that you had family over for games and good food.

Yay for the reward for your birthday treat and how fun to get together again with Melanie. I need to visit her blog, it’s been a while.

You reminded me I need to return a couple of phone calls.

    Have a good weekend!

  3. I did enjoy lunch! And the free dessert for you was great. Always fun!

I’m glad you were able to find some hanging baskets that were reduced in price. So pretty to enjoy before the fall season hits. And I’m glad you can enjoy your curved shower rod. It’s those simple things that bring the best smiles.

    Have a great weekend!

  4. We don’t have any Cracker Barrels near me so I won’t miss them if they go. There was one near my sister’s house when she lived in the south and it was fun to go there when I was visiting her. My outdoor plants have not done well this year. We have had a very dry, very hot summer. I think that the weather patterns are changing and we will have to adapt our gardens in the coming seasons.

  5. It sounds like a good week! I have never even heard of a curved shower curtain … now I need to look that up πŸ™‚ Your hanging baskets would be a nice visual “pick me up,” and I bet you’ll have quite a while still to enjoy them.

**Re. the photo at my place — no leaning buildings! (although yeah, it’s funny that they do look that way). We’ll leave those for Pisa πŸ™‚

  6. Wow, that’s a great deal for flowers to enjoy for few more months.

Such a simple and helpful solution for your shower!

I wondered how the CBs in your town fared with the new changes. Glad everything was the same for your long-awaited visit with Melanie.

  7. The flowers in my hanging basket died, too. I will look at Home Depot (hopefully tomorrow).

Glad you had your fun lunch and free dessert with Melanie. Those times with friends is always precious.

And fun times with your family are the BEST!

  8. We had the same with some flowers, we still are hanging between summer and autumn, no wonder that nature can’t follow. It seems you had a nice week !
