Friday’s Fave Fives

Friday's Fave Fives

On Friday’s, I intentionally exercise gratefulness for the week by sharing highlights of it with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story. This has been one of those weeks where I sit down at the computer to write this post and think, “Okay, what did happen this week?” It’s gone by in a blur. But let’s see if I can come up with five things.

1. A few very productive days. I have things going on four days in a row next week, so I wanted to get as much done ahead of time as possible so I wouldn’t get stressed then. Thankfully, the first few days of this week went really well.

2. Ladies’ Bible study at church. We’re in Exodus from now until December. I am often amazed at what new observations pop out at me from well-known passages. Studying with others helps bring out even more from the text.

3. Lunch with Jason’s family Sunday after church at that Kern’s Food Hall again. As a bonus, that place has a really good donut vendor. Since I am trying to keep sugar under control, I don’t get donuts very often. I almost never get a whole package of them–that would be too much temptation. To bring one home with my decaf coffee for dessert felt like a wonderful indulgence.

4. White cheddar mac and cheese. We tried this from Arby’s along with our sandwiches one night this week. So good.

5. Comfort. Like most of us, I was shocked by the murder of Charlie Kirk this week, and dismayed to learn that people on the other side of the political fence were actually rejoicing over it. I don’t know what happened to the free exchange of ideas in this country and everyone’s right to free speech. Whatever disagreements we have with each other, they should never result in violence, especially murder. These things should spur us on to more prayer. I was helped by the Scripture truths that came to mind in this post as well as others I read yesterday.

  1. It sounds as if you have had a productive week! Good for you! I love weeks like that.

I checked the link you provided for the Kern’s Food Hall…wow! They have some delicious looking items!

I have a recipe for mac and cheese that my daughter gave me, and she said you could use any kind of cheese in it. Next trip to the store, I want to get some white cheddar to give it a try.

And the last point in your post concerning comfort is something that has been on my heart this week as well. Why can’t we just accept people for where they are. The thought that people on the other side of the political spectrum are rejoicing over Charlie Kirk’s murder appalls me.

  2. I love a good donut! A cup of coffee and a glazed donut sounds perfect right now!

I’m glad you had some productive days. I love those. I feel so accomplished.

I’ve been to Kern’s once to eat. Quite a place. I love those lunches with my family after church. Such a wonderful treat on a Sunday.

  3. I too was shocked and saddened…..for this entire nation. NO ONE should have the right to kill someone regarding a difference of politics or religion or whatever. This is America!! We’re supposed to embrace freedom of speech and freedom from fear. Sadly, we will see no peace until Jesus returns. Then BOTH parties….in fact, all people….will be bowing their knee to Jesus. God wins!! πŸ™‚ I didn’t always agree with some of what that young man spoke but he was a true man of Christ and I’m glad he went to heaven (glad meaning I’m happy he knew our Savior, not glad that someone killed him). I’m not super conservative but I’m also not a flaming liberal and i try to listen to all people and their beliefs and just try to speak TRUTH: for people to love their Lord with all their heart soul and mind (like this young father did from what I’ve seen) and to love our neighbors (any one different from us!!) as we want to be loved. Sadly, our nation just doesn’t get it. Even some professing “Christians” don’t get it. Makes me sad.

Anyways, other than the horrible gun violence this week in CO and Utah, you had a wonderful list of blessings. And now I’m craving a donut with coffee. πŸ™‚

  4. I was glad you wrote that post after Charlie’s assassination! It’s felt like such a heavy week to me. I know that good wins in the end, but in the meantime … I can be so dark. The idea that a Christian man could openly debate with others in a civil way and be killed doing it (and then have many online cheering his death) is just unfathomable.

Yay for productive days! I had lots of (too many) things going on this week, and I’m really hoping for some of those type of days next week πŸ™‚

  5. Yes, a hard week for many. I was putting together the text for my Bible study class and wound up glancing through many passages in John about the slander, injustice, and disbelief Jesus suffered. Most telling was the phrase “the servant isn’t greater than his master” repeated a few times. But the most astonishing was John 16:33 reminding us to be of good cheer because He has overcome.

I’m glad you had some blessings, too. That time to prepare for a busy week, some folks to study and learn with, and some indulgent foods.

  6. Hi Barbara, I am glad you got to treat yourself to a donut. I do have to watch my carbs and don’t eat sweets very often. Hard when you have a whole table of them like there was for me the other day at our Sr. Fellowship. I am praying that anger does not get worse and divide people even more. What happened was horrible and social media had made things much worse. Praying for our country. Have a great weekend!

  7. I am still trying to process all of what has happened this week, too. Most importantly, I just keep praying.

You had a good week. Productive days, yummy food, family time, Bible Study. BSF is studying OT books about the Exile and then the Return of Israel.

    Have another good week!

  8. There have been some beautiful vigils for Charlie Kirk even here in Alberta with many, many in attendance. The one in my city will be this weekend. I’m hoping to attend. I think a sleeping giant has been awakened. Glad you were so productive before your next busy week. I need to get inspired by you as I also have a busy week coming up. Now I’m craving doughnuts and coffee. πŸ™‚
