Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

We’re supposed to have a winter storm this weekend, so our streets might look like the picture above. I’ve heard different reports about whether we’ll get snow or ice and how much of each. We’ll see! One of my main concerns is losing power, so we’re praying that doesn’t happen.

Meanwhile, I’m joining with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to cultivate thankfulness by share this week’s blessings.

1. A successful cardioversion. I was sorry to miss FFF last week, but I had a procedure scheduled that day. I didn’t have my thoughts together enough to get a post ready ahead of time. I had an ablation for atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation the week before, but those procedures left me in afib despite three cardioversions. My doctor advised going home and getting back on the medications I’d had to stop for the ablation to see if that helped. It didn’t, so he had me come in for another cardioversion on Friday. Thankfully that went well and my heart rate and rhythm have been back to normal since. My heart might still be a little jumpy over the next few weeks as it heals from the ablation, but it feels so much better than it did! It’s nice to have energy again. I’ve been slowly getting back into my regular routine and even got some tidying done this week.

2. Meals and a visit. Jason and Mittu and Timothy brought a meal over to us and ate with us one night. I enjoyed the food as well as the company. Then Mittu sent over a few other meals another night.

3. An outing. I had my follow-up visit with the cardiologist’s PA Monday, and all went well there. My appointment was for late morning, and his office is near one of Timothy’s favorite restaurants. So I texted his family the night before to see if they might want to meet us there for lunch after my appointment. They did! It was my first excursion in a long while. We enjoyed lunch, then Jim and I went to Crumble Cookies, and then home. I went back out for a haircut with a $9.99 coupon. The stylist got it a bit shorter than I had wanted–I always say to take about an inch off, but people have varying ideas about how much an inch is. 🙂 However, I liked the way it turned out.

4. A working furnace. We’d had a maintenance call scheduled for our AC/furnace unit long before we knew a winter storm was coming. A few hours after having it serviced, I noticed the temperature was a couple of degrees lower than our setting, yet the furnace wasn’t coming on. Jim called the man who had worked on it, and, thankfully, he was able to come back the same day. Some wire hadn’t gotten connected properly. I’m glad it was an easy fix and we didn’t have to wait to make another appointment. Even without a winter storm, it’s been cold at night.

5. Bible study. We had been off over the holidays and started back up in January. I had missed the first couple of meetings, but the books were delayed, so I didn’t miss any lessons. We usually study a book of the Bible, but this semester we’re going through True Woman 201: Interior Design: Ten Elements of Biblical Womanhood by Mary Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss (now Wolgemuth). I had read it about ten years ago, but it will be good to go through it again. Our first discussion was very encouraging.

How was your week? Is a winter storm forecast for you as well?

  1. Glad to hear that all went well with the Cardio PA… will be keeping you in my prayers. You have such a sweet family to bring meals and visit with you often. Makes me smile. Yep, the weather is coming right at us. So unpredictable… not sure how much we are actually going to get. 2 to 25 inches! LOL! I don’t know. Your new Bible study should interesting! Hope you enjoy it. Be safe this weekend and stay warm!

  2. I’m so glad that your procedure on Friday of last week went well, Barbara, and especially happy to read that you are starting to slowly get back in your routine. That has to feel so good after all you have been through.

The rest of your week sounds wonderful with family and yummy meals!

Hope your weekend isn’t too severe with the winter storm that is coming.

  3. I read a Nancy De Moss book once and although I didn’t agree with everything she said, it was excellent information overall. I’ve never done a study book though by her.

I’m glad all went well with your procedure and that your daughter in law brought over some meals. That’s so helpful and kind!

Yay for hair cut coupons. I’m growing mine out a bit more but I have a feeling I’m going to get it cut again come spring. Not super short though.

I hope you all are safe down there! I know the southern states aren’t used to deep snow and ice. Here in my town (north of Albany NY on the eastern edge of the state) we only have a half inch of snow on the ground. Far different from western and northern NY! I just found out there are 34 inches in the mountains where I was hiking last summer. I’d like about 4-8 so I can go snowshoe!

Have a safe and warm weekend.

  4. Grateful for your good news! And God bless Mittu 🙂 Did you go to Great Clips? I got the 9.99 coupon and went here. I agree; it’s very hit-or-miss with how much they take off. I think I’d prefer them to take too much. This time, I pretty much can’t tell I got my hair cut 😦 Oh well! I’ll be excited to see how much snow you get 6″ predicted here.

  5. I am very happy to hear you are beginning to return to your regular routines. That always feels good after a time of poor health.

We have a winter storm warning here in Eastern Missouri. The forecast is for frugid temperatures and snow, perhaps asmuch as 6-10 inches by Sunday afternoon. We, The Church are praying that the near nation-wide storm does not reach it’s predicted force.

    God bless you,

    Barb Paton

  6. Hi Barbara, I am glad your ablation went well. Nice that you could have lunch with your family too! Your book study sounds nice. Get plenty of rest as you recover. Have a great weekend!

  7. Good news that the cardioversion worked for you. I hope you continue to heal well. And it’s so sweet of your family to help with meals and fellowship, too.

Also good news on having the heater fixed quickly. My whole family (except one son) will be affected by the storm. I hope everyone stays warm and safe. And you and your family, too.

  8. I’m glad that your heart seems to have settled back into a normal rhythm. It must have been a worrying time with all the ups and downs over the last few weeks. Your DIL is a star making sure you had meals over this week. I’m sure you didn’t want to be cooking. Hope the storm isn’t too bad but glad you got the furnace issue sorted in time. Enjoy the weekend.

  9. I’m glad you got your furnace fixed before this wintry weather. I’m as prepared as I’m gonna be. So glad that the cardioversion was successful and is behind you now. Stay warm and safe.

  10. I’m so glad to hear that your health is better, Barbara. I’ll bet it felt like a celebration going out to lunch. We have a Crumbl’s near us, and I try not to remember, because I love them!

  11. I’m sorry the procedures kept piling up, but so glad to hear you’re regaining energy. Praying all the work will accomplish what you need for good rest and recovery.

Your outings sound good after all that health stuff — to get a break, spend time with your beloveds, and have a treat.

Oh, that’s so good that your furnace got the attention it needed before this monster winter weather.

  12. Barbara: so grateful that you are finally starting to feel better and getting some energy back. So nice that you could have a pleasant lunch out with the family after the follow up visit. Nothing like the company of loved ones to boost the spirit. Glad you’re repair man was able to get back that very day to do a re-check and get the furnace working. Did you get the crazy winter weather?
