This is Suzie-the-dog getting undirty. You can tell how she feels about the process. Love her longsuffering, woebegone expression there.

In this picture the boys are more messy, really, than dirty. This was after the “finale” of their youth group competition at the end of the school year a few years ago. They were on opposite teams. They get a little crazy with the face paint and games that night! I think there was even a food fight….

Updated: This party kept coming to mind, so I decided to scan the picture in and include it, too. This was at Jason’s 6th birthday party 14 years ago. We had let him invite several guys for a birthday party at a state park which had a clear little stream they could wade in. On the invitations we advised that they wear something they could get wet and dirty in. I vividly remember Jason excitedly telling all his friends, “We get to get dirty!” Ideal fun for a 6 year old boy! All the activity is stirring up the dirt at the bottom and making the stream look all muddy. By the way, yes, that’s me there, very pregnant with Jesse. Can you believe he wasn’t born for another two months after this picture?

  1. Poooooooor Suzie! My Jewl HATES a bath! Just HATES it… so I fully understand and have great compassion for Suzie! The BOYS look like they’re having FUN though!

  19. I love the dog picture….it is always amazing how they can just stand there and look so pathetic….then, as soon as you finish, they roll around, trying to get the “scent” back again!! The pictures of the boys were great too! Isn’t it fun looking back and smiling on times like this?

    I could never keep our dog in one place for a wash, and I would end up just as wet.

    Definitely a great idea for a boys party. Boys + Dirt = FUN

  35. Awwww… look at Suzie! She reminded me of my pet doggies and kitties when I had them last time. Aha… those woebegone expression. Makes me want to laugh and hug them at the same time. I had more trouble with the cats though but the dogs sort of ‘resigned’ to their fate. LOL.

    Your boys look cute with all the facial drawings. LOLOL.

  43. Great photos! Suzie’s expression reminds me of my dog, Bruno who gives me a similar looks whenever I give him a bath.

    I’m sure the boys enjoyed their group competition.

  50. Hi Barbara! Those are great dirty pics 🙂 What a great place to have a birthday party, what little boy wouldn’t want to get into the mud. Poor suzi, but she looks pretty well behaved.
