Today is our 28th wedding anniversary!

For my “Show and Tell” today I wanted to show the necklace I wore at my wedding. I was thinking my husband gave it to me, but the more I think about it, the more I am not sure. I may have bought it myself.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t get that picture any clearer after several attempts. Here is a close-up of the symbol.

That symbol was also on our napkins at the reception, along with our names and the date, but for some reason I don’t have one of the napkins in my wedding album.

We chose the symbol of the two wedding rings on the cross because we wanted to symbolize several things: that our love was based on God’s love for us shown in many ways but most of all on the cross, that we wanted our lives centered on Christ and the gospel, that the strength to have a good, godly, edifying Christian marriage would come from Him.

We were delighted to find the same symbol on the necklace.

…although it’s crooked and my eyes are closed and Jim looks a little tipsy though neither of us drinks. 🙂 I have to say my wedding photos were my one disappointment. In most of them my eyes are closed. Double exposure was “the” big special effect then…

…though a background besides a brick wall would have been a little more romantic. 🙂

Photography has come a long way since then. 🙂 I’m sure digital cameras help a lot. But — though lovely pictures are nice, having everything “picture perfect” is not the most important thing. When I see young brides stressing out over wedding details, I wish I could encourage them to just relax: the important business will get done whether all the little details do or not, and a good marriage can survive without all the fuss around the wedding ceremony itself.

  7. Happy Anniversary! I really like the necklace, invitation, napkins, tying together, etc. The photos are sweet, I didn’t see any of the “flaws” until I read about them! I think they are very pretty!Good that you have a sense of humor about it. Some people had gorgeous, perfect pictures, but the marriage didn’t last! You are blessed!

  8. Thanks for sharing your photos; that’s lots of fun. I never look good in pictures, but since people took about a million at our wedding, at least a few turned out. I’m a great believer in quantity.

    I was disappointed with my wedding pictures because my lovely antique lace veil doesn’t show up anywhere, but it doesn’t really matter. You both look beautiful. May God bless you always.

  12. OH I just love the necklace and the symbol that you used for your wedding. I have never seen that-with the two rings and the cross. Beautiful!
    That picture is so funny with the candles in your noses. That would be a real pretty picture except for that!

  13. I was just reading some of your blog. I am also a former BJ student and still live in the area. In fact I took some pictures of the Christmas lights out there and will be posting them tomorrow. The new entrance looks just beautiful- especially lit up.
    Anyway- just thought it was neat- it’s a small world!

  20. Congratulations on 28 years of marriage! That is so awesome! I love your necklace and that you used it for your invitation and napkins. What a beautiful symbol. My sons are getting to the marrying age and I think I will pass that along to them, it is such a meaningful symbol.

    I’m sorry about your photos. They are still really neat though. We skimmped on our photography and had a guy take snap shots. He got some pretty good ones, but they really are not professional, but you know I have never really missed that, once we got married I started focusing on other things and then the kids came, all those details with the wedding plans didn’t seem to matter any more, what is more important is the marriage!
