Our church’s annual Ladies’ Luncheon is this week. Everything has been going pretty smoothly — until working on the favors I had in mind which was supposed to involve just a few clicks and a print. When I get to a dead end I get too frustrated, so I am going to put it aside and work on some other aspect after eating lunch and then see what comes to mind. The centerpieces are coming along. Here is a sneak peek:
The ladies worked on the little dresses at the last meeting. All I have left to do is put Spanish moss over the Styrofoam and then add some little flowers — in one of them you can see one of the little flowers on top of the moss.
We do have the lowest number ever signed up to attend, though. That’s discouraging. I’m pondering what we might do differently next year — I am thinking about sending out a questionnaire to get other people’s opinions.
The leg thing is still an issue. The bright red of the cellulitis is gone, but when I am on my feet for any length of time, the area still gets red and my lower leg gets a little swollen, but then it clears up when I put my feet back up for a while. I should be able to function like that and get everything done for the luncheon — I am a little concerned about the day of the luncheon, though, as it is usually a pretty long day.
If you feel so led, I’d appreciate your prayers that my leg would heal completely and soon, that the cellulitis would not recur, that everything would come together for the luncheon and honor the Lord, and that I would not be nervous. Even when everything is going fine I tend to feel nervous about these things, and that leads to other problems.
In other news….the quarterly Bloggy Giveaway Carnival is this week. I don’t think I am going to be able to give away anything for it this time around, unless I get everything else done and come up with something. I am not sure how much I will even be able to visit the other giveaways…we’ll see. It’s pretty easy to squeeze in a few here and there, especially if they don’t have hoops they want readers to jump through. Of course, anyone giving away anything on their blog can do so however they choose to, but I have to say when there are hundreds of giveaways at once like this, I don’t like requirements on the individual giveaways, like “Tell me your favorite post of mine.” I did actually see that on one this morning and thought, “You expect everyone who comes here for the contest to read through your archives?!”
Finally, my good blog friend Alice gave me this Blogging Friends Forever Gold Card.
Thanks so much, Alice! I want to pass this along to all my regular readers: I appreciate your visits! You bring great joy to my blogging experience.

Those little center pieces are the cutest thing!!! I LOVE them!!! And clustered all TOGETHER like that they are just too precious! You are in my prayers dear! Hope ALL goes well for the luncheon!
What a great idea for centerpieces. Very clever and cute. The ladies will love them!
I prayed for your continued healing and peace regarding the luncheon. It will be a blessing to everyone who attends, regardless of numbers, right?
I do hope you heal up soon! thanks for your insightful comments on my blog answers. I’ll be thinking of an example of when spiritual goes preachy, but I can’t come up with one right off the bat. I may have to wait until I see it and then disguise it so no one knows who/what I’m talking about. and maybe it’s just me. The centerpieces are adorable, btw
Thank you, ladies. š Gretchen, that’s so true, and it’s something that I have to keep reminding myself of — that we’ll have a wonderful time no matter how many of us there are. I keep having to give things like this continually to the Lord.
Those center pieces are adorable!! I remember what a gorgeous job you did last year and I know that this year will be just as fantastic (if not better).
I’m praying for your leg. I know how aweful dealing with this can be. My husband has been dealing with Achilles tendanitis (sp?) since Oct. It’s really been hard on him. Those shoes we bought him yesterday were “special” shoes that are supposed to support his foot better and promote healing. He’s currently wearing a giant boot cast and today he’s flown to Atlanta for work. He had to call ahead for a wheel chair. These things can really be difficult in daily life.
I’m praying for your leg and I’m praying that your ladies luncheon will be a huge success no matter how many ladies attend.
such clever and neat centre pieces
the feedback should help explain why there arent as woman this year
or at least give you ideas about how to improve the luncheon
all the best with it
Those are such cute centers! Love them!
Praying for your leg and your nerves, Barbara!
Those are the most adorable centrepieces! What do you do with them once the luncheon is over?
The center pieces look great. What do you all do at your annual luncheons?
I just attended a women’s dinner meeting at our church (we do these quarterly) and we were all asked to bring new or nice used children’s books to donate to a local charity, and tell about a favorite book we liked. We had three speakers (they were all brief!) who spoke about learning to love the scriptures and ideas for family scripture study.
any way, the point being that people are busy, and one purpose of gathering together is fellowship, but people are more likely to come if they know they are contributing to something.
I read some ofyour thoughts about books… I wish there was a rating system for books, like there is for movies. There is all this policital correctness about books, ‘oh, we can’t censor books!!! ‘ I don’t want to ban/burn / deny people from reading books, but some thing to indicate what is in there would help with kids, and help me, too. I don’t want to read trash, and I don’t want my 12 year old reading it, either!
thanks for visiting my blog!
Susanne, sometimes we dismantle centerpieces and store the materials for future use, but since these are unique and not likely to be used again, we will probably give them away somehow to those who want to take them.
Muum, your idea sounds like a great one for one of our regular monthly meetings. The luncheon is a once a year thing, designed to be something big and special. This is the only thing all year at the church that is catered so the ladies don’t have to do a lot for it. We have a nice meal, sometimes a skit or game, special music, a guest speaker, favors for everyone and a door prize for one or more. It used to be a mother/daughter event and we still want it to be a special time for mothers and daughters, but we don’t want to exclude those who aren’t mothers or don’t have daughters, so it is open to all the women of all ages.
Those little dresses are absolutely adorable, Barbara! I will be praying for your leg.
Hugs,
Kelli
Very pretty pieces, Barbara. That’s very creative of you. š
Thanks for putting up the award too. Hehe…
I love these centerpieces! I bet I could do those here with kimonos!
Those are the cutest things ever!!! I love em!

The centerpieces look good.
We went to a smaller church when we first moved here 5 years ago. Their Women’s Ministry was very new and made up of volunteers. In the Spring they had a luncheon. The tables were hosted and each host did the decor, linens, china and crystal. The youth served. We had salads, fruit and dessert. Befor lunch, they had a few mini workshops which the ladies could attend. I loved the whole concept of this luncheon. It was a good way for me to meet others in the church because I just picked a table and sat down.
My former church did something similar in the fall with the hosting deal being decor, favors following a theme. The food and tablewear were furnished by the church with volunteer groups serving. We had guest speakers for this event. It was a larger church with a volunteer women’s ministry with officers.
Have fun and I hope your leg is healing well.
Excellent web site I will be visiting oftena
