The verdict is in…

Is anyone getting sick of hearing about my silly tooth/jaw pain? I’m sorry. I know there are people who have much greater trials.

But it hurts.

I saw the dentist today, who took an x-ray and said I have an infection at the root of a tooth that has a crown on it (how it got there, I don’t know). So I was given a prescription for antibiotics and pain meds and scheduled for a root canal next week.

(Gulp!)

I should be able to use the same crown afterward. And though I dread the procedure, I am looking forward to never having this tooth cause me pain again.

The dentist thinks the pain and discomfort from over the weekend may have been this infection brewing. I hope that’s all it was. I guess if that pain is still there after all of this, we’ll explore other possibilities.

Meanwhile I am anxiously awaiting getting the pain med prescription filled to see if it works better than ibuprofen. Hopefully it won’t have any side effects or make me loopy.

Meanwhile I need to go rustle up dinner for the troops. Tooth pain is good for diets — I really don’t feel like eating!!

    I dont like going to the dentist – their pain killers tend to react with me

    and I know what you mean about not wanting to eat
    I have a scratch on the inside of my lower lip and it hurts when i eat

  2. Although I’m glad you found out the cause of the pain, I’m sorry you have to go through a root canal! Praying that all goes well for you!

  3. Well… at least it’s fixable and you get to keep all your teeth! (see? there’s always a bright side!) People always joke about root canals – but I have a friend who’s had 3 and had no trouble with them! I personally have never had one — You know… they just pulled all my teeth instead!!! You will be in my prayers for a trouble free root canal!

  4. At least you know it’s not TMJ. My neighbor had her jaw wired shut for months to take care of that problem. I’m sorry about the root canal though. I hope you get relief soon!!!!

  5. Dear Barbara, please don’t apologize for the pain you are in. Tooth/gum pain is some of THE worst! I hope your pain medication helps. I will tell you…..any ambivalence I had about taking and getting hooked on pain medication after my hip replacement flew right out the window AFTER my surgery. Bring it on!! LOL Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without it. I am now taking just one pill every 4-6 hours as needed, so my pain is abating, thankfully. I WAS taking THREE different pains meds when I first came home, so I think most people just naturally cut back as their pain decreases. I will surely be praying for you, Barbara.   7. This is good news/bad news. Good that it isn’t TMJ, bad that you need a root canal. Good that you can reuse the cap. I’m stopping here!
