Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:5-7.
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. Colossians 3:10.
Complete in Thee! no work of mine
May take, dear Lord, the place of Thine;
Thy blood hath pardon bought for me,
And I am now complete in Thee.
Refrain:
Yea, justified! O blessed thought!
And sanctified! Salvation wrought!
Thy blood hath pardon bought for me,
And glorified, I too, shall be!
Complete in Thee! no more shall sin,
Thy grace hath conquered, reign within;
Thy voice shall bid the tempter flee,
And I shall stand complete in Thee.
Complete in Thee— each want supplied,
And no good thing to me denied;
Since Thou my portion, Lord, wilt be,
I ask no more, complete in Thee.
Dear Saviour! when before Thy bar
All tribes and tongues assembled are,
Among Thy chosen will I be,
At Thy right hand, complete in Thee.
— Aaron R. Wolfe, 1821-1902
Refrain, James M. Gray, 1851-1935

Amen! And amen again! I’ve been reading Gene Edwards’ “The Highest Life” this past week and this hymn goes along with it just perfectly.
Here’s a new hymn to me. Thanks for sharing it. What a great meditation on a great theme.
Does this have the same tune as Sweet Hour of Paayer? I seem to know it though I know not how. I began reading and soon was singing! It must be something I learned in childhood (hours sitting on that pew beside Gram strying to be still!) and haven’t heard since.
Ah! I just listened to the sound clip. Yep, I do know that song from church with Gram. It was remembering it by the wrong tune that had me confused as to how I knew it. Well, Gram died 32 years ago. Is it any wonder I was confused?
I have never heard this hymn before. It is lovely. I find more and more and more that the hymns the Catholics sing and listen to are very different from MOST of the ones that other Christian faiths listen to. There are soooo few of MY favorite old hymns sung at my Lutheran church. It really sort of makes me sad. I don’t know if I’m sad that the Catholics didn’t sing the songs I hear now… or if I’m sad that the other churches don’t use the Catholic hymns. I DO miss a LOT of my old hymns! And I don’t understand WHY we don’t use them…
H-m-m… The reference is actually Colossians 2:10. But it is certainly an important truth. When we trust Christ as our Saviour, God sees us as clothed in the righteousness of His dear Son.
Thanks for including the hymn by Aaron Wolfe. It was what brought me to your site this morning, since today is the 189th anniversary of his birth. With the refrain added by James M. Gray, and the tune by Talmadge Bittikofer, it has become a fine congregational hymn.
